Early outcomes of native and graft-related abdominal aortic infection managed with orthotopic xenopericardial grafts

William Alonso et al.

Summary: This study reported the surgical strategy and early outcomes of abdominal aortic reconstruction using in situ xenopericardial grafts for both native and graft-related aortic infection. The technical success rate was 100%, with good short-term results observed. Longer follow-up is needed to determine the durability of the reconstruction and the need for reinterventions.

Xenogeneic materials for the surgical treatment of aortic infections

Paula R. Keschenau et al.

Summary: This study presented the experience with xenogeneic reconstructions for aortic infections using self-made bovine pericardium tubes and/or the biosynthetic Omniflow (R) II graft. The surgeries involved various aortic levels and identified pathogens were mostly Gram-positive bacteria. Although the materials showed appropriate early to midterm outcomes, aortic infections remain serious conditions with significant morbidity and mortality rates, even in a specialized center.
