An Outbreak of ST859-K19 Carbapenem-Resistant Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae in a Chinese Teaching Hospital

Junying Zhu et al.

Summary: An outbreak caused by carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-hvKP) ST859-K19 isolates occurred in a teaching hospital in China. The isolates showed high-level resistance to commonly used antibiotics and had almost identical resistance and virulence gene profiles, indicating possible clone transmission. This study provides important insights into the molecular and genomic characteristics of ST859 CR-hvKP isolates and highlights the need for active surveillance to detect the spread of CR-hvKP in healthcare settings.

Convergence of carbapenem resistance and hypervirulence leads to high mortality in patients with postoperative Klebsiella pneumoniae meningitis

Yuming Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics of Klebsiella pneumoniae meningitis and the impact of convergence of carbapenem resistance and hypervirulence on patient mortality. The results showed a high mortality rate associated with multidrug resistance and significantly different mortality rates between Hv-CRKP and non-Hv-CRKP strains.

Molecular Epidemiology of Hypervirulent Carbapenemase-Producing Klebsiella pneumoniae

Dakang Hu et al.

Summary: The positive rates of virulence genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae vary significantly, with iucA, p-rmpA2, and p-rmpA being the primary genes leading to Hv-bla (KPC)(+)-KP. The formation of Hv-bla (KPC)(+)-KP is mostly due to bla (KPC)(+)-KP acquiring another plasmid carrying virulence genes.
