Novel Cyclized Derivatives of Ferulic Acid as Potential Antiviral Agents through Activation of Photosynthesis

Summary: In order to develop new antiviral agents, novel cyclized derivatives of ferulic acid were designed and synthesized. These derivatives showed desirable antiviral activities against CMV, PMMoV, and TSWV. Compound 5e exhibited excellent protective activities against the three viruses, with EC50 values superior to those of trans-ferulic acid, dufulin, and ningnanmycin. The protective mechanisms of 5e were found to involve regulating photosynthesis in the host.

The ester derivatives of ferulic acid exhibit strong inhibitory effect on the growth of Alternaria alternata in vitro and in vivo

Summary: This study explored the antifungal activity of ferulic acid and its derivatives against Alternaria alternata, the principal pathogen causing postharvest black spot disease of Korla pear. The results showed that the derivatives exhibited stronger inhibitory effects on the fungal growth and reduced the development of black spot disease. The underlying inhibitory mechanisms were found to be the damage to the fungal cell membranes. Computationally designed p-coumaric acid analogs: searching for neuroprotective antioxidants

Summary: A systematic search for new p-coumaric acid derivatives was conducted using a computer-assisted protocol, resulting in the selection of 10 derivatives with favorable drug-like behavior and lower toxicity. Three of these derivatives were identified as promising chemical antioxidants, potentially more effective than p-coumaric acid itself in combating oxidative stress. These findings suggest potential applications in developing new non-nitrocatechol inhibitors for Parkinson's disease treatment without the side effects of current inhibitors.
