Molecular Actors of Inflammation and Their Signaling Pathways: Mechanistic Insights from Zebrafish

Jade Leiba et al.

Summary: Inflammation is a complex physiological process that protects the body and promotes tissue repair. Understanding the mechanisms of inflammation is crucial for modulating it in a pathological context. Zebrafish, with its similarities to the human immune system and genetic advantages, has been proven to be a valuable animal model for studying inflammation. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the molecular actors of inflammation in zebrafish and highlights the tools that have been developed to study them, which have provided insights into the mechanisms of inflammation and can be used for drug screening.

Mitigation of nicotine-induced developmental effects by 24-epibrassinolide in zebrafish

Francisco Pereira et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant effects of a natural plant hormone, 24-epibrassinolide, against the teratogenic effects of nicotine on zebrafish embryos. The results showed that 24-epibrassinolide reduced nicotine-induced deformities in zebrafish embryos, while improving oxidative stress and metabolic changes. It also alleviated nicotine-induced cognitive dysfunction.

Protective effects of 24-epibrassinolide against the 6-OHDA zebrafish model of Parkinson's disease

Ana Gomes et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of 24-Epibrassinolide (24-EPI) on 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA)-induced toxicity. The results showed that 6-OHDA caused developmental abnormalities and Parkinson's disease-like symptoms in embryos, which were reversed by 24-EPI. These findings support further investigation of the neuroprotective effects of 24-EPI.

Protective Effects of Natural Antioxidants on Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Thymol and Its Pharmacological Properties

Yao Liu et al.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a gastrointestinal disease that causes chronic tissue damage. The exact cause of IBD is unclear, but several risk factors have been identified. Immune system dysfunction and oxidative stress are hallmarks of IBD, and dietary intervention and medical treatment are recommended as potential therapies. Thymol, a natural compound, may have a protective effect on intestinal health.

Evaluation of the developmental effects of a glyphosate-based herbicide complexed with copper, zinc, and manganese metals in zebrafish.

Germano A. B. Lanzarin et al.

Summary: The use of glyphosate-based herbicides has increased significantly, leading to concerns about the synergistic effects with metals. This study evaluated the toxic effects of glyphosate-based herbicides complexed with metals on zebrafish embryos, and found that the combination induced biochemical, physiological, and behavioral toxicity.

Effects of low-concentration glyphosate and aminomethyl phosphonic acid on zebrafish embryo development

Weidong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of residual low-concentrations of Glyphosate (GLY) and its degradation product AMPA on zebrafish embryos, finding developmental toxicity including increased heart rates, arrhythmia, cardiac defects, and altered gene transcription levels. Pericardial edema and bone deformation may be caused by inhibition of specific enzymes after exposure to GLY and AMPA. The results suggest that typical environmental residual concentrations of GLY and AMPA have similar developmental toxicity in zebrafish embryos.

Copper(II) complexes with meclofenamate ligands: Structure, interaction with DNA and albumins, antioxidant and anticholinergic activity

Amalia Barmpa et al.

Summary: The study investigated the interaction, binding mode, and biological activities of copper(II) complexes with the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug sodium meclofenamate in the presence or absence of nitrogen-donor co-ligands. The complexes showed high affinity to DNA, serum albumin proteins, and exhibited significant antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory activities. These findings suggest the potential pharmaceutical applications of the complexes.

Inflammatory, Oxidative Stress, and Apoptosis Effects in Zebrafish Larvae after Rapid Exposure to a Commercial Glyphosate Formulation

Germano Lanzarin et al.

Summary: Glyphosate-based herbicides are widely used globally, but the study found that acute exposure to RF in zebrafish larvae at higher concentrations can lead to oxidative stress and cell death, without affecting inflammation or antioxidant enzyme activity. Further research is needed to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying these effects.

Brassinosteroid Signaling, Crosstalk and, Physiological Functions in Plants Under Heavy Metal Stress

Jaspreet Kour et al.

Summary: Brassinosteroids (BRs) are plant steroidal hormones that play key roles in plant development and stress response. They are synthesized through multiple pathways and signal transduction involving receptor kinases, ultimately regulating the expression of target genes. Research under heavy metal stress has revealed the involvement of BRs in signal transduction and transcriptional networks.
