Quality of life impact of eye diseases: a Save Sight Registries study

Himal Kandel et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of eye diseases on quality of life using the IVI questionnaire and explored the relationship between IVI scores and visual acuity. The results showed that keratoconus patients had lower IVI scores compared to patients with retinal diseases. There was a weak correlation between visual acuity and QoL scores, suggesting a complex relationship.

Biomechanical Evaluation of Topographically and Tomographically Normal Fellow Eyes of Patients With Keratoconus

Lara Asroui et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of parameters and indices based on biomechanical measures in distinguishing fellow eyes with normal corneas from patients with keratoconus. The results showed that the Tomographic and Biomechanical Index (TBI) had the best discriminative ability in distinguishing normal controls from keratoconus suspect eyes.

Personalized Model to Predict Keratoconus Progression From Demographic, Topographic, and Genetic Data

Howard p. Maile et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop a prognostic model to predict keratoconus progression to corneal crosslinking (CXL) and found that CXL provided a stronger predictive model than keratometric progression. Age and keratometry were significant predictors of progression risk, while candidate SNPs associated with keratoconus did not contribute to progression risk.

Evaluation of Corneal Biomechanical Indices in Distinguishing Between Normal, Very Asymmetric, and Bilateral Keratoconic Eyes

Robert Herber et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the ability of biomechanical indices provided by the Ocular Response Analyzer and dynamic Scheimpflug analyzer to distinguish between normal eyes and eyes with very asymmetric ectasia and keratoconus. The results showed that the Corvis Biomechanical Index had the highest diagnostic ability in distinguishing different subgroups of ectatic eyes.

Evaluation of the Relationship Between the Changes in the Corneal Biomechanical Properties and Changes in the Anterior Segment OCT Parameters Following Customized Corneal Cross-Linking

Tomoya Nishida et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between changes in corneal biomechanical properties and changes in anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) parameters in patients with progressive keratoconus who underwent customized corneal cross-linking (C-CXL). The results showed significant changes in several SBT and AS-OCT parameters following C-CXL. Multiple regression analysis revealed that age, intraocular pressure, average keratometry, and thinnest corneal thickness were related to changes in SBT parameters.

Bilateral Differential Topography-A Novel Topographic Algorithm for Keratoconus and Ectatic Disease Screening

Yang Shen et al.

Summary: This study established a novel bilateral differential topographic algorithm for screening keratoconus and corneal ectasia before corneal refractive surgery. The algorithm showed higher accuracies in discriminating KC cases from normal cases by calculating key bilateral differential characteristic parameters. It may complement conventional diagnostic models in improving the sensitivity and specificity of early detection of keratoconus and ectasia before corneal refractive surgeries.
