Feng Zhang et al.

Summary: An ultra-active metal-free ORR electrocatalyst, F-N-AC-1000, exhibited excellent ORR performance and stability, with the incorporation of fluorine atom into the pyridinic-N configuration playing a key role in improving performance. The hierarchical pore structure with large specific surface area also contributed to the enhanced activity and faster electron and product transport. This study offers valuable insights for the design of superior metal-free ORR catalysts.

Effects of acid treatment and plasma micromachining on the surface properties of carbon fibers

Tingting Mei et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of acid treatment on the carbon cloth surface using plasma micromachining were investigated. The results showed that the combined plasma and acetic acid treatment led to increased surface oxidation and surface energy of the carbon cloth. Protein adsorption was found to decrease after surface treatment compared to the untreated carbon cloth. The combination of plasma and weak acid treatment was not only simple and convenient but also effective in controlling protein adsorption on biomedical carbon cloth.

Engineering a concordant microenvironment with air-liquid-solid interface to promote electrochemical H2O2 generation and wastewater purification

Shaolong Wang et al.

Summary: This study constructs a concordant gas/liquid microenvironment for efficient electroreduction of O2 to H2O2. By reducing the O2 diffusion layer thickness, increasing O2 local concentration, and inducing massive highly active sites, the H2O2 productivity and current efficiency are significantly improved. This technology has great potential for wastewater treatment.

Decreased gas-diffusion electrode porosity due to increased electrocatalyst loading leads to diffusional limitations in cathodic H2O2 electrosynthesis

Emily Murawski et al.

Summary: Increasing the loading of carbon black electrocatalyst on gas-diffusion electrodes decreases the cathodic coulombic efficiency of cathodic hydrogen peroxide electrosynthesis, likely due to lower GDE porosity causing mass transport limitations. Future studies should focus on engineering GDE structures to enhance mass transport rates for hydrogen peroxide out of the electrode.
