Mechanism of CO2 hydrogenation to methanol on the W-doped Rh(111) surface unveiled by first-principles calculation

Qin Chen et al.

Summary: Understanding the mechanisms of CO2 hydrogenation on a specific catalyst is crucial for the development of efficient catalytic materials. In this study, first-principles calculation is used to investigate the mechanisms of methanol synthesis from CO2 hydrogenation on tungsten-doped Rh(111) catalyst. The analysis reveals that CO2 is highly activated on the W-doped Rh(111) surface, and the optimal reaction mechanism and hydrogenation route are determined.

Poly(ionic liquids) derived N, S co-doped carbon nanorod from in situ and template-free method as an efficient metal-free bifunctional electrocatalysts for direct methanol fuel cells

Yongfang Qu et al.

Summary: In this work, N, S co-doped carbon nanorod material with hierarchical porous architectures was successfully synthesized by a facile template-free pyrolysis approach. The synthesized material exhibited excellent performance for oxygen reduction reaction and methanol oxidation reaction, surpassing commercial Pt/C in terms of long-term stability and methanol tolerance. This study provides an effective route for designing metal-free carbon-based electrocatalysts for direct methanol fuel cells.

Carbon emission efficiency of China's industry sectors: From the perspective of embodied carbon emissions

Peng Gao et al.

Summary: This study analyzed embodied carbon emissions of 28 industry sectors in China from 2005 to 2017 and found that both embodied and direct carbon emissions are generally increasing, while the overall efficiency has improved. There are significant differences among industries, and the reduction potential of embodied carbon emissions is lower than that of direct carbon emissions.

Analytical Review of Life-Cycle Environmental Impacts of Carbon Capture and Utilization Technologies

Guillermo Garcia-Garcia et al.

Summary: Carbon capture and utilization (CCU) is proposed as a sustainable alternative to produce valuable chemicals by reducing global warming impact and depletion of fossil resources. Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a robust methodology used to analyze environmental impacts, showing that CCU generally reduces environmental impacts compared to conventional manufacturing processes, notably global warming/climate change. To achieve environmental improvements, renewable energy must be used, particularly for hydrogen production through water electrolysis.
