Recent progress in defective TiO2 photocatalysts for energy and environmental applications

Zhenzi Li et al.

Summary: TiO2 nanomaterial photocatalysts have received extensive research interest for energy and environmental applications. The main challenges are the large bandgap and charge-carrier recombination. Recent reports suggest that engineering the defects of TiO2 can enhance photoresponse and promote charge separation efficiency. This review summarizes the synthesis strategies for defective TiO2, especially black TiO2 nanomaterials, and discusses their applications, defect types, characteristics, and photocatalytic mechanism in detail.
