Steam gasification of digestate after anaerobic digestion and dark fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass to produce syngas with high hydrogen content

S. S. Timofeeva et al.

Summary: This study investigates the possibility of using steam gasification of digestates after anaerobic digestion and dark fermentation to obtain syngas with high hydrogen content. The syngas from digestates after dark fermentation has a high H2/CO ratio, making it promising for conversion to liquid fuel through Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. This research is significant for the processing of agricultural industrial waste and the production of high value-added products.

Sewage sludge and wood sawdust co-firing: Gaseous emissions and particulate matter size distribution

Patrik Elbl et al.

Summary: This study examines the feasibility of co-firing dried sewage sludge and wood sawdust, and finds that increasing the sludge content leads to higher NOx and SO2 emissions, while CO emissions decrease significantly. Additionally, the addition of sludge also affects the mass and distribution of particulate matter.

Land application of sewage sludge incinerator ash for phosphorus recovery: A review

Persephone Ma et al.

Summary: Recovering phosphorus from sewage sludge incinerator ash (SSA) can help redirect valuable nutrients back into the food system, but requires thorough research on SSA properties, phosphorus availability, contaminant concentrations, and behavior in soil. Approaches for P recovery from SSA must take into account individual characteristics of the material and regional requirements and regulations for land application. In this review, the history of P recovery from SSA is discussed along with research on characterization, contaminants, P availability, and land application of SSA.

Enhanced hydrogen production in co-gasification of sewage sludge and industrial wastewater sludge by a pilot-scale fluidized bed gasifier

You-Hsin Chen et al.

Summary: This research investigates enhanced hydrogen production in sewage sludge and industrial wastewater sludge co-gasification. The experimental results demonstrate that the high catalytic Fe/Mn content in industrial wastewater sludge increases hydrogen production, with the produced gas heating value and cold gas efficiency falling within acceptable ranges.

An overview of slagging and fouling indicators and their applicability to biomass fuels

Jakub Lachman et al.

Summary: Slagging and fouling are common problems in biomass firing, and the nature of biomass ash requires a different approach compared to coal firing. Laboratory observed ash fusion temperatures and predictive indices are commonly used to evaluate slagging and fouling propensity, with thermodynamic models and neural networks also being applied for this purpose. Despite the convenience of predictive indices and ash fusion tests, a more graphical solution has been proposed for preliminary slagging and fouling predictions.
