Health Benefits of Quercetin in Age-Related Diseases

Deepika et al.

Summary: Polyphenols, including the widely occurring quercetin, are a group of plant compounds with antioxidant properties that protect against aging and various age-related diseases. Quercetin, present in abundant quantities in nature and particularly in onions, possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, and anti-diabetic properties. It can easily cross the blood-brain barrier and has shown potential as a curative agent in neurodegeneration, diabetes, cancer, and inflammation. Further studies and formulations of quercetin could explore its potential in treating other age-associated diseases.

Hexadecylamine functionalised graphene quantum dots as suitable nano-adsorbents for phenanthrene removal from aqueous solution

Gugu Kubheka et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of surface functionalization on the adsorption efficiency of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) was examined. Introducing hydrophobic moieties improved the adsorption capacity of GQDs, with nitrogen and sulfur co-doped GQDs showing the highest adsorption capacity. The surface modification of GQDs enhanced their physicochemical and adsorption performance, making them potential materials for the extraction of hydrophobic organic pollutants from water.

Effective adsorption of ciprofloxacin antibiotic using powdered activated carbon magnetized by iron(III) oxide magnetic nanoparticles

Tariq J. Al-Musawi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that PAC@Fe3O4-MN exhibited excellent adsorption capacity for CIP, with a favorable, spontaneous, and endothermic process. The interaction of CIP with PAC@Fe3O4-MN was found to occur through both chemical and physical reactions on a homogeneous layer of active sites, controlled by film diffusion. The adsorbent showed promise for sustainable and cost-effective treatment of CIP-contaminated wastewater, with the ability to be recycled through multiple adsorption-desorption cycles.
