A Census of Thermally Pulsing AGB Stars in the Andromeda Galaxy and a First Estimate of Their Contribution to the Global Dust Budget

Steven R. Goldman et al.

Summary: The researchers present a comprehensive catalog of metal-rich thermally pulsing asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars in the northwest quadrant of M31. The catalog includes photometric measurements from the Hubble Space Telescope, chemical classifications, and infrared measurements used to identify dust-producing AGB stars. They estimate the contribution of AGB stars to the dust budget of M31 and plan to further study these candidates with the James Webb Space Telescope.

Effects of disturbances on aboveground biomass of alpine meadow in the Yellow River Source Zone, Western China

Yan Shi et al.

Summary: This field experiment investigates the impacts of grazing-simulated mowing and pika population on aboveground biomass in the Yellow River Source Zone. The results show that severe mowing has a stronger effect on aboveground biomass loss compared to severe pika disturbance, and the joint effects of both disturbances have the most significant impacts on aboveground biomass loss. However, pika disturbance has little effect on aboveground biomass change in moderate and non-mowed plots.

Use of Hyperspectral Reflectance Sensing for Assessing Growth and Chlorophyll Content of Spring Wheat Grown under Simulated Saline Field Conditions

Salah El-Hendawy et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that utilizing different vegetation indices can accurately assess the growth and chlorophyll content of wheat genotypes under saline field conditions, with the need to select appropriate indices based on specific conditions. The results show that simple forms of indices can effectively predict plant variables under saline conditions for distinct genotypes.

Junsheng Lu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to accurately estimate crop plant height (PH) and canopy coverage (CC) by using point cloud method, and found a potential visible redness intensity (NRI) for estimating leaf nitrogen concentration (LNC). Combining different visible vegetation indices shows potential for accurate LNC estimation.

UAV Based Estimation of Forest Leaf Area Index (LAI) through Oblique Photogrammetry

Lingchen Lin et al.

Summary: By reconstructing 3D point clouds from aerial photographs taken at different angles, a study found that the 30-degree photo scheme provided more accurate LAI estimates compared to the 15-degree scheme, especially in the lower parts of the canopy. Multi-angle schemes yielded the best accuracy for estimating leaf area.

Hyperspectral assessment of leaf nitrogen accumulation for winter wheat using different regression modeling

Jianbiao Guo et al.

Summary: Real-time non-destructive monitoring of nitrogen accumulation through hyperspectral remote sensing is crucial for crop nitrogen management. This study compared different parameters and modeling methods for predicting leaf nitrogen accumulation, with SVM regression model found to be the most accurate. Continuum removal treatment improved the correlation between chlorophyll absorption region spectra and leaf nitrogen accumulation.
