Seed Priming with Nanoparticles and 24-Epibrassinolide Improved Seed Germination and Enzymatic Performance of Zea mays L. in Salt-Stressed Soil

Bushra Ahmed Alhammad et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the effects of seed priming with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) or 24-epibrassinolide (EBL) and their combinations on the germination of maize seeds in salt-stressed soil. The results showed that seed priming significantly improved the germination traits and chemical analysis of maize seeds under saline stress. The combination of 100 mg ZnO-NPs L-1 + 0.2 mu M EBL resulted in the highest improvements for most of the studied traits.

Enhancement of Morphological and Physiological Performance of Zea mays L. under Saline Stress Using ZnO Nanoparticles and 24-Epibrassinolide Seed Priming

Awais Ahmad et al.

Summary: Salinity is a major environmental factor that limits crop productivity worldwide. This study investigated the effects of seed priming with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) and 24-epibrassinolide (EBL), both individually and in combination, on maize grown under saline stress conditions. The results showed that the combined treatment of ZnO NPs and EBL was more effective than individual treatments in mitigating the negative impact of saline stress on maize growth and physiological and biochemical performance. The highest values for various traits were observed in maize treated with 100 mg L-1 ZnO NPs + 0.2 mu M EBL. Seed priming with this combination improved root length, chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate, and nutrient uptake while reducing Na+ accumulation and Na+/K+ ratio.

Seed Morphology and Germination of Native Tulipa Species

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study examined the seed morphology, superficial ornamentation, and germination characteristics of eight wild tulip species native to China. The results showed diverse seed shapes, sizes, colors, weights, and superficial ornamentation. The morphology of the seed was related to germination, and factors such as embryo length, embryo/seed length ratio, seed coat color, temperature, and gibberellin concentration influenced germination.

Brassinosteroids (BRs) Role in Plant Development and Coping with Different Stresses

Hakim Manghwar et al.

Summary: Plants respond to stress through the regulation of phytohormones, including the important role played by brassinosteroids (BRs) in alleviating different stresses. Studies have shown that BRs are vital for plant growth and development and play a significant role in combating various stresses.

Brassinosteroids regulate rice seed germination through the BZR1-RAmy3D transcriptional module

Min Xiong et al.

Summary: Seed dormancy and germination are critical for plant growth and crop production. This study reveals that brassinosteroids, a type of plant hormone, promote rice seed germination and post-germination growth by modulating starch metabolism. The transcriptional module BZR1-RAmy3D plays a key role in this process.

Effect of a-Amylase on the Structure of Chia Seed Mucilage

Francesco Piazza et al.

Summary: This study investigates the structural changes of chia seed mucilage when treated with alpha-amylase, the most abundant enzyme in human saliva. The results reveal that the material thickens and the elastic modulus increases after enzyme treatment, indicating a restructuring of the chia mucilage network mediated by alpha-amylase. This finding has implications for the commercial processing of chia seed mucilage.

Effects of 24-epibrassinolide on plant growth, antioxidants defense system, and endogenous hormones in two wheat varieties under drought stress

Imran Khan et al.

Summary: Research on the foliar application of a biochemical substance 24-epibrassinolide (EBL) to improve wheat growth under drought stress showed significant enhancement in plant growth, photosynthesis, gas exchange parameters, photosynthetic pigment content, reduction in oxidative damage, and increased activity of antioxidant enzymes. The results indicate that EBL plays a crucial role in improving wheat growth, biomass, and yield under drought conditions, with further field investigations needed for dosage recommendations.
