Gallic Acid Alleviates Gut Dysfunction and Boosts Immune and Antioxidant Activities in Puppies Under Environmental Stress Based on Microbiome-Metabolomics Analysis

Kang Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that dietary supplementation of gallic acid (GA) can alleviate the diarrhea rate of stressed puppies and reduce the levels of cortisol and HSP-70 after transportation. Additionally, GA can alleviate oxidative stress and inflammatory response caused by environmental stressors. Puppies fed GA also showed favorable changes in gut microbiota composition after transportation, which may support gut and host health.

Longitudinal fecal microbiome and metabolite data demonstrate rapid shifts and subsequent stabilization after an abrupt dietary change in healthy adult dogs

Ching-Yen Lin et al.

Summary: Diet has a significant impact on gut microbiota diversity and metabolite profiles. However, little is known about the longitudinal changes and their relation to host physiological changes. This study collected fecal samples from healthy adult beagles following an abrupt dietary change and found that the gut microbiome and metabolite profiles dramatically changed and stabilized within a few days after the dietary interventions. The changes were accompanied by functional changes and were highly predictive of the diet group.

5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP): Natural Occurrence, Analysis, Biosynthesis, Biotechnology, Physiology and Toxicology

Massimo E. Maffei

Summary: 5-HTP is a natural component found in both drugs and dietary supplements, with important roles in neurologic and metabolic diseases. Its synthesis from tryptophan is a limiting step in serotonin and melatonin biosynthesis. Methods such as chemical synthesis and microbial production can be used to prepare 5-HTP for the treatment of various conditions including depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders.

Increased survival in puppies affected by Canine Parvovirus type II using an immunomodulator as a therapeutic aid

Adriana Munoz et al.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the effects of an immunomodulator as a therapeutic auxiliary in puppies with sepsis and SIRS induced by CPE. It was found that administering a human immunomodulator to puppies with CPE under six months of age reduced the severity of clinical signs, increased survival, and modulated inflammatory cell parameters. More studies are needed to fully utilize these clinical findings, potentially mediated by the interaction of human Ub increment GG with canine CXCR4.

Leveraging 16S rRNA Microbiome Sequencing Data to Identify Bacterial Signatures for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Yuxia Liu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed 16S rRNA gene sequencing data from multiple studies and found no significant differences in community structures between IBS and healthy controls at the amplicon sequence variants (ASV) level, but machine learning methods could differentiate IBS patients at the genus level. Linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe) analysis identified 97 biomarkers across all studies.

Interactions Between IL-17 Variants and Streptococcus in the Gut Contribute to the Development of Atopic Dermatitis in Infancy

Mi-Jin Kang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of IL-17 variants and gut microbiota on the development of atopic dermatitis (AD) in infants, revealing an enrichment of Streptococcus in AD infants and a correlation between the A allele of IL-17 and AD development. Additionally, increased Streptococcus and IL-17 stimulation were found to modulate the immune system and potentially contribute to the pathogenesis of AD.
