Genetics of ovarian insufficiency and defects of folliculogenesis

Monica Malheiros Franca et al.

Summary: This article mainly discusses the genetic basis of primary ovarian insufficiency (POI). Many genes related to POI etiology have been identified, some of which are associated with syndromic POI and mainly involved in metabolism function and meiosis/DNA repair, while others are associated with nonsyndromic POI and primarily involved in ovarian development and meiosis/DNA repair pathways. Considering the genetic and familial heterogeneity of POI, genetic screening is valuable for better genetic counseling and patient management.

Genome-wide association study reveals the genetic determinism of growth traits in a Gushi-Anka F2chicken population

Yanhua Zhang et al.

Summary: This study identified 470 significant SNPs associated with 43 out of 68 chicken growth and carcass traits through a genome-wide association study. SNPs in Chr1, -4, and -27 were found to be associated with multiple traits, suggesting a large effect on growth and carcass traits. The findings provide a theoretical basis for chicken breeding programs.

Genetic basis of chicken plumage color in artificial population of complex epistasis

Guoying Hua et al.

Summary: The study investigated the genetic basis of chicken plumage color, revealing the impact of epistasis on white and colored feathers in different developmental stages. Age-related roles of specific genes were identified, with TYR and PMEL showing epistatic effects. Candidate genes for different plumage colors, such as CDKN2A for barred plumage and Golgb1/REEP3 for yellow plumage, were also highlighted, suggesting further research needed for understanding the molecular mechanisms behind these traits.

Identifying Signatures of Selection Related to Comb Development

Yunjie Tu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify genes associated with comb development in chickens. Through analysis of whole-genome resequencing data, candidate selection regions were identified based on fixation index (F-ST) and average number of base differences (pi). Various quantitative trait loci (QTL) related to different aspects of comb development were found on different chromosomes. Functional annotation revealed genes and signaling pathways related to comb growth and development, immunity, neural function, and heat dissipation. Overall, comb development appears to be regulated by multiple genes and signaling pathways.
