A Preliminary Study on the Interplay between the Serum Levels of Neurotransmitters and Thyroid Hormones for the Evaluation of the Behavioral Phenotype of Dogs

Raffaella Cocco et al.

Summary: This study confirms that the serum values of hormones and neurotransmitters in dogs are correlated with the behavioral phenotype of the animal. The results show that neurotransmitter levels can reveal abnormal behaviors that cannot be assessed with simple ethograms. These findings have practical implications for breeders and trainers in selecting appropriate subjects for specific tasks.

Real-Time Measurement of the Daily Total Locomotor Behavior in Calves Reared in an Intensive Management System for the Possible Application in Precision Livestock Farming

Claudia Giannetto et al.

Summary: Intensive farm conditions can reduce the locomotor behavior of calves, and the Actiwatch-Mini(R) is used to record their total locomotor behavior, which has a diurnal daily rhythmicity. Individual daily rhythm and variabilities between subjects and within subjects exist, and these variabilities should be considered during farm monitoring. Housing confinement, light/dark conditions, and social deprivation can modify the amount of total locomotor behavior recommended for calves' psychophysical health.

Serum Oxytocin in Cows Is Positively Correlated with Caregiver Interactions in the Impossible Task Paradigm

Biagio D'Aniello et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between circulating oxytocin levels and social behaviors of cows towards humans. The results show a positive correlation between serum oxytocin levels and the duration of social interactions with the caregiver, and a negative correlation with the latency of these interactions.

Effects of oxytocin administration and the dog-owner bond on dogs' rescue behavior

Marina Victoria Dzik et al.

Summary: Dogs exhibit rescue behavior towards their owners when they are in a stressed or trapped situation. The administration of oxytocin affects this behavior, and the bond between the dog and owner is also associated with it.

Milk Fatty Acid Profiles in Different Animal Species: Focus on the Potential Effect of Selected PUFAs on Metabolism and Brain Functions

Maria P. Mollica et al.

Summary: This review highlights the nutritional qualities of essential fatty acids in milk, particularly omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, and discusses their impact on metabolism and the central nervous system. It also explores how animal feeding practices can influence milk fat composition and quality. Additionally, the review presents in vivo studies supporting the benefits of milk FA intake in animal models and considers factors limiting the transferability of these benefits to humans.
