Knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of smallholder farmers on foot-and-mouth disease in Cattle in West Kazakhstan

Summary: This study assessed the KAPs of farmers and veterinary professionals towards foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) through face-to-face interviews. Results showed that a large proportion of herd owners were aware of the disease, and many had heard of FMD cases in the neighborhood. The most common clinical signs associated with FMD were oral mucosa lesions, hoof blisters, and excessive salivation. The study suggests the need for immediate actions to prevent further FMD occurrences by giving the region a status of an FMD-free zone with vaccination.
