Enabling Underwater Wireless Power Transfer towards Sixth Generation (6G) Wireless Networks: Opportunities, Recent Advances, and Technical Challenges

Syed Agha Hassnain Mohsan et al.

Summary: Wireless power transfer (WPT) has gained significant interest in recent years, particularly in providing secure charging in underwater scenarios. However, the stochastic nature of the ocean poses challenges to underwater WPT, resulting in lower transfer efficiency compared to terrestrial systems. This study compares various WPT techniques and highlights recent research contributions in underwater WPT. It also addresses factors such as coil orientation, misalignment, and seawater effects to improve efficiency. Furthermore, the study proposes the use of multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) wireless power transmission to enhance the endurance of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).
