The Impact of Digital Economy on the Economic Growth and the Development Strategies in the post-COVID-19 Era: Evidence From Countries Along the Belt and Road

Jinzhu Zhang et al.

Summary: The digital economy has a positive impact on the economic growth of countries along the Belt and Road, mainly through promoting industrial structure upgrading and employment restructuring. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an increased demand for digital industries, with the demand side having a greater impact than the supply side. Some countries, such as Armenia, Israel, Latvia, and Estonia, showed great growth potential in their digital industries, while others like Ukraine, Egypt, Turkey, and the Philippines were adversely affected. Therefore, development strategies should be implemented to bridge the digital divide and strengthen the driving effect of the digital economy on industrial upgrading, employment, and trade in the post-COVID-19 era.
