Comparative study on the effect of different copper loading on catalytic behaviors and activity of Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts toward CO and CO2 hydrogenation

Tanutporn Kamsuwan et al.

Summary: In this study, Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 (CZA) catalysts with different Cu loadings were prepared using the co-precipitation method and tested for methanol production in CO and CO2 hydrogenation reactions. The high Cu loading CZA catalyst exhibited enhanced structural and physical properties, resulting in higher conversion rates of CO and CO2.

Design of highly stable MgO promoted Cu/ZnO catalyst for clean methanol production through selective hydrogenation of CO2

Sachin Kumar Sharma et al.

Summary: The synergistic interaction between small Cu particles and MgO/ZnO-supported catalysts synthesized by the hydrothermal method results in a high methanol production rate. The high activity of the catalyst may be attributed to the high Cu dispersion and large Cu surface area. The MgO support plays a promoting role in CO2 adsorption, leading to a preference for the selective CO2 hydrogenation pathway.

Yttria-doped Cu/ZnO catalyst with excellent performance for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol

Tianqinji Qi et al.

Summary: The research findings suggest that the addition of yttria (Y2O3) can enhance the performance of the Cu/ZnO catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. The newly synthesized Cu/ZnO/Y2O3 catalyst showed higher methanol yield and selectivity due to small, well-dispersed Cu species, abundant surface adsorption sites, and more Cu-ZnO interfaces. This basic design strategy offers a promising approach for developing scalable and cost-effective catalysts for industrial methanol synthesis.
