Prediction of petroleum viscosity from molecular weight and density

Dicho Stratiev et al.

Summary: This study predicts the viscosity of 165 crude oils with varying viscosity, density, and molecular weight, using eight existing models and three new models developed in this study. The results show that the artificial neural network (ANN) model performs better than the empirical correlations. Additionally, the study examines the viscosity prediction of 93 crude oils with varying viscosity, density, molecular weight, and SARA composition using existing empirical correlations and a new empirical correlation that also considers the crude oil saturate content. The results indicate that the model developed in this study, incorporating the saturate content, has the highest prediction accuracy.

Production of biodiesel fuel from vegetable raw materials

Natalia K. Kondrasheva et al.

Summary: One way to reduce harmful emissions from diesel fuel is to replace part of the fuel with biofuel. Research has focused on three methods of producing biodiesel fuel: transesterification of vegetable oils, esterification of fat acids extracted from vegetable oil, and hydroprocessing of vegetable oils using catalysts. The characteristics of biodiesel fuel samples were studied and compared with the requirements of automotive fuels standards. Transesterification of vegetable oils is the best method for producing biodiesel fuel in terms of its physical and chemical characteristics.

Environmentally Friendly Diesel Fuel Obtained from Vegetable Raw Materials and Hydrocarbon Crude

Anzhelika M. Eremeeva et al.

Summary: The global issue for countries currently is the search for raw materials and the production of bioenergy, such as biodiesel fuels. Promising biodiesel fuels include green diesel fuel produced from hydrogenation of vegetable oils. Three methods have been proposed to obtain high-quality and environmentally friendly diesel fuel: compounding green diesel with hydro-treated diesel fuel, compositions of improved fuel with bio-additives, and two-component mixtures of environmentally friendly diesel fuel with bio-additives. These methods can produce fuel for diesel engines with improved lubricating properties and reduced wear scar diameter.

Use of clay-containing waste as pozzolanic additives

Andrei M. Gerasimov et al.

Summary: The growing productivity of mining and processing enterprises leads to increased volumes of liquid tailings impoundments and upstream impoundments of ore processing waste. This article presents a possibility of recycling clay-containing concentration tailings and coal beneficiation tailings as pozzolanic additives to cements and concretes, which can be used for various purposes such as soil stabilization, development of territories, and reclamation of mine workings. Thermochemical treatment of these wastes plays a crucial role in changing their mineral form and improving their pozzolanic activity, resulting in increased quality and strength of cement and consolidating stowing mixture.

Electric steelmaking dust as a raw material for coagulant production

Svetlana V. Sverguzova et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the utilization of electric arc furnace (EAF) dust as a raw material for the production of coagulants in wastewater treatment. The study focuses on the physical and chemical properties of EAF dust produced by the Oskol Electrometallurgical Combine in Russia. Acid-thermal treatment of the dust showed partial dissolution of iron (II), (III), and aluminium compounds, leading to efficient coagulation processes during wastewater treatment. Model solutions demonstrated a high (> 95%) removal efficiency of heavy metal ions by modified EAF dust.

Use of the UNIFAC model in the calculation of physicochemical properties of ecotoxicants for technological and ecoanalytical purposes

Vladimir G. Povarov et al.

Summary: The modern development of environmental monitoring has led to the elaboration of analytical methods for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of various ecotoxicants. However, many studies lack information on the isomers and homologues of already studied compounds. To solve this problem, group theories of solutions are used to calculate the solubility and partition coefficient for ecotoxicants, which are important parameters for addressing analytical and ecological issues.
