Evaluation of pulmonary function among detergent powder factory workers- a cross sectional study in Semnan, Iran

Farhad Malek et al.

Summary: This study assessed pulmonary function among detergent powder factory workers and found that all spirometric indices significantly decreased after shift-work. Wearing protective masks improved one of the indices. Smoking workers had lower pulmonary function indices compared to non-smokers. This highlights the need for effective preventive measures to promote the health conditions of these workers.

Estimation of lung age via a spline method and its application in chronic respiratory diseases

Xiaolin Liang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop lung age estimation equations and explore the application of lung age in chronic respiratory diseases. Retrospective spirometric data of healthy subjects aged 18 to 80 were used to develop the equations, and patients with COPD and asthma were analyzed based on the severity of airflow limitation. The results showed that lung age estimation equations were effective and lung age could be used in the assessment of chronic respiratory patients.

Summary: Occupational cleaners have an increased risk of respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, but evidence for associations with other respiratory health effects is weaker. Studies lack quantitative exposure assessment to cleaning products, and exposure control and respiratory surveillance among cleaners is recommended to prevent respiratory health burden.
