An integrated Mg battery-powered iontophoresis patch for efficient and controllable transdermal drug delivery

Yan Zhou et al.

Summary: The authors propose a simplified wearable iontophoresis patch with a built-in Mg battery for efficient and controllable transdermal delivery. This patch eliminates the conventional interface impedance between the electrode and drug reservoir, reducing system complexity and size. The delivery dosage can be easily manipulated by tuning the viologen hydrogel and the iontophoresis stimulation mode.

Influencing factors and drug application of iontophoresis in transdermal drug delivery: an overview of recent progress

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: The stratum corneum of skin poses a strong barrier to most molecules, limiting transdermal drug delivery. Iontophoresis technology has emerged as an effective method to enhance drug permeation through the skin, providing a more efficient, noninvasive, and patient-friendly approach while widening the scope of drugs for transdermal delivery.

Electrospun Carbon Nanotube-Based Scaffolds Exhibit High Conductivity and Cytocompatibility for Tissue Engineering Applications

Taylor C. Suh et al.

Summary: This study presents two novel methods, sandwich (sCNT) and dual deposition (DD CNT), for incorporating carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) and gelatin scaffolds. The inclusion of CNTs significantly increased the scaffolds' conductivity, fiber diameter, pore size, hydrophobicity, Young's modulus, and failure load. Additionally, the CNT-incorporated scaffolds showed high cytocompatibility, making them potential candidates for cardiac and neural tissue engineering.

Formulation-by-Design of Efinaconazole Spanlastic Nanovesicles for Transungual Delivery Using Statistical Risk Management and Multivariate Analytical Techniques

Rashed M. Almuqbil et al.

Summary: With the rapidly evolving regulatory and technical landscapes in pharmaceutical formulation development, a risk-management approach using multivariate analysis is highly essential for designing a product with necessary critical quality attributes. This study optimized efinaconazole spanlastics using the concepts of Formulation-by-Design and explored the application of transungual delivery for the management of onychomycosis. The study employed various techniques such as Ishikawa fishbone diagram, Plackett-Burman experimental design, and Pareto charts to identify the risk factors and optimize the formulation parameters, resulting in efinaconazole spanlastics with improved quality features.

Physical Enhancement? Nanocarrier? Current Progress in Transdermal Drug Delivery

Noriyuki Uchida et al.

Summary: A transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) provides drug absorption via the skin and could replace conventional oral and blood administration. However, designing efficient TDDS is challenging due to the barrier properties of the skin, and methods using physical and chemical stimuli may cause inflammation and tissue damage. New TDDS with nanocarriers have emerged to minimize skin damage with the advancement of nanotechnology.

A Paradigm Shift in the Treatment and Management of Onychomycosis

Aditya K. Gupta et al.

Summary: Management of onychomycosis is challenging due to low efficacy of most antifungal agents and increasing antifungal resistance. A paradigm shift towards patient-centered, holistic approach with emphasis on laboratory diagnosis and rational choice of antifungal agent is needed. Strategies for effective management include disinfection of fungal reservoirs and prophylaxis with topical antifungal agents to reduce recurrence and improve long-term clinical success.
