Limosilactobacillus fermentum KAU0021 Abrogates Mono- and Polymicrobial Biofilms Formed by Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus

Summary: In this study, the antimicrobial potential of Lactobacillus metabolite extracts (LMEs) purified from four Lactobacillus strains was investigated against mono- and polymicrobial biofilms formed by C. albicans and S. aureus. The results showed that LMEKAU0021 effectively inhibited biofilm formation and affected the cell membrane integrity in both pathogens.

Effect of halogenated indoles on biofilm formation, virulence, and root surface colonization by Agrobacterium tumefaciens

Summary: This study investigates the potential of three indole derivatives, 4-chloroindole, 6-iodoindole, and 5-chloro-2-methyl indole, as antibiofilm and antivirulence agents against Agrobacterium tumefaciens. The compounds inhibit bacterial adherence, biofilm formation, growth, and the production of virulence factors. They also downregulate biofilm, virulence, motility, and stress-related genes. These findings suggest that the indole derivatives have promising activity against A. tumefaciens infections.

Summary: We synthesized antimony-tin oxide (ATO) nanoparticles for antibacterial, photocatalytic, and supercapacitor applications. The nanoparticles showed a hexagonal structure and functional groups, and exhibited strong colloidal stability. ATO demonstrated antibacterial activity and high degradation efficiency in breaking down rhodamine dye. The nanoparticles also showed promising potential for use in supercapacitors.

Summary: Multispecies bacterial biofilms are a common cause of chronic recurrent urinary tract infections. Plant-derived compounds, such as ursolic acid, show potential as an alternative to antibiotics for preventing and eradicating bacterial biofilms. This study found that ursolic acid inhibited biofilm formation, reduced bacterial survival, and affected the morphology of bacterial cells, particularly in the early stages of biofilm development.

Summary: The study aimed to characterize different uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) phylogroups from catheter-associated UTI (CAUTI) and community UTI (Com-UTI) in terms of antibiotic resistance, biofilm formation, and pathogenicity islands (PAIs). UPEC strains from CAUTI and Com-UTI showed similar high antibiotic resistance, with higher biofilm formation in CAUTI strains. Phylogroup A was the most common, and PAI IV536 was the prevalent marker in all phylogroups from both types of UTI.
