Polymeric microneedles enable simultaneous delivery of cancer immunomodulatory drugs and detection of skin biomarkers

Pere Dosta et al.

Summary: This study reports on the design of a microneedle (MN) platform capable of delivering immune activators and collecting interstitial skin fluid (ISF) to monitor therapeutic responses. The MNs showed effective transdermal drug delivery into immune cells in the tumor microenvironment, enabling the study of immune response to therapy over time. This platform has potential for theranostic applications.

The clinical progress of mRNA vaccines and immunotherapies

Ann J. Barbier et al.

Summary: The emergency use authorizations (EUAs) of mRNA-based vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 highlight the transformative potential of this nucleic acid technology. Clinical applications of mRNA have mainly focused on vaccines for infectious diseases and cancer, but there are challenges in using mRNA for immunotherapies. The past year has seen significant progress in the clinical development of mRNA therapies for COVID-19, as well as other diseases such as influenza, HIV, and cancer.
