Silk-Elastin-like Polymers for Acute Intraparenchymal Treatment of the Traumatically Injured Spinal Cord: A First Systematic Experimental Approach

Pau Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential of a silk-elastin-like polymer (SELP) called (EIS)(2)-RGD6 for spinal cord injury (SCI) treatment. The results showed that (EIS)(2)-RGD6 could be acutely injected into the injured spinal cord, facilitating the formation of a slow-degrading porous scaffold and reducing SCI-associated fibrosis.

Topographically guided hierarchical mineralization

X. Deng et al.

Summary: Material platforms based on interaction between organic and inorganic phases have great potential to recreate the structural and functional properties of biological systems. The integration of a protein-based mineralizing matrix with surface topographies allows for the growth of spatially guided mineralized structures. Systematic modifications of surface topographies demonstrate the possibility of selectively guiding the growth of hierarchically mineralized structures.

Development of a Bone-Mimetic 3D Printed Ti6Al4V Scaffold to Enhance Osteoblast-Derived Extracellular Vesicles' Therapeutic Efficacy for Bone Regeneration

Kenny Man et al.

Summary: The study showed that 3D printed titanium scaffolds coated with hydroxyapatite can enhance the therapeutic efficacy of osteoblast-derived EVs. Triangle pore scaffolds significantly increased osteoblast mineralization and EV yield, demonstrating the potential for bone repair. Coating with bone-mimetic nano-needle hydroxyapatite further improved osteoblast mineralization and EV production, highlighting the importance of harnessing bone-mimetic culture platforms for regenerative medicine.
