HPV+ HNSCC-derived exosomal miR-9-5p inhibits TGF-beta signaling-mediated fibroblast phenotypic transformation through NOX4

Bozhi Wang et al.

Summary: HPV-positive HNSCC patients have a better prognosis due to fewer infiltrated CAFs in the tumor microenvironment. Exosomal miR-9-5p derived from HPV-positive HNSCC cells inhibits fibroblast phenotypic transformation via decreasing NOX4 expression and ROS levels, affecting the TGF-beta signaling pathway and prognosis.

DTX-P7, a peptide-drug conjugate, is highly effective for non-small cell lung cancer

Yao Jiang et al.

Summary: Despite the successful use of molecular targeted therapy and immunotherapy, only a small subset of patients can benefit from these treatments. Chemotherapy remains the main treatment for most tumors, but its non-selective effects on healthy tissues and developing resistance are major obstacles. In this study, a new conjugate called DTX-P7 was developed, which specifically targeted and inhibited tumor growth in non-small cell lung cancer. DTX-P7 induced unfolded protein response and subsequent apoptosis, effectively killing the dormant cancer stem cells. Therefore, DTX-P7 shows promise as a potential anticancer therapeutic.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of exosomes derived from stem cells of human deciduous exfoliated teeth (SHED-Exos) on angiogenesis. The results showed that SHED-Exos inhibit cell proliferation and migration, induce apoptosis in endothelial cells, suppress tube-like structure formation, and downregulate angiogenesis-related factors. Overall, SHED-Exos demonstrate potential as a novel and effective therapeutic approach for anti-angiogenic treatment both in vitro and in vivo.

SH003 and Docetaxel Show Synergistic Anticancer Effects by Inhibiting EGFR Activation in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

Yu-Jeong Choi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the synergistic anticancer effect of the combination treatment of SH003 and docetaxel in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) by targeting EGFR activation. The combinatorial treatment reduces cell viability and promotes apoptosis in TNBC cells. In vivo experiments also confirm the inhibitory effect on tumor growth without affecting body weight. These findings suggest that SH003 may serve as a safe and effective adjuvant combination therapy with docetaxel for TNBC.

Unraveling molecular mechanisms of head and neck cancer

Antra et al.

Summary: Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) pose major challenges in treatment due to their heterogeneity, late-stage diagnosis, and high recurrence rate. Current biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of HNSCC mainly rely on smoking as the major risk factor. This review focuses on the differential environment and gene mutations of HNSCC in Indian patients who consume smokeless tobacco. It reveals frequent mutations in genes involved in DNA repair, cell proliferation, cell death, metastasis, lymphocyte proliferation, cell-cell adhesion, miRNA processing, and inflammatory responses in Indian HNSCC patients.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma-clinical characteristics, treatment, and outcomes in a single institution retrospective cohort study

Summary: This study analyzed the data of patients treated for malignant tumors of the oral cavity to assess the influence of risk factors on survival in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity. The study found that age over 65 did not significantly influence survival. The location of the tumor also had an impact on the outcome, with better outcomes observed in the anterior two thirds of the tongue and worse outcomes in the retromandibular triangle area. Higher degrees of local and regional advancement and higher stage were associated with worse outcomes. Positive surgical margins did not affect treatment results, and delayed reporting of symptoms did not worsen the outcome.
