Proton-Conducting Polymer Wrapped Cathode Catalyst for Enhancing Triple-Phase Boundaries in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

Meenakshi Seshadhri Garapati et al.

Summary: The study focuses on improving the performance and durability of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) by synthesizing different weight percentages of proton-conducting poly(vinylphosphonic acid) (PVPA) wrapped nitrogen and sulfur doped carbon nanotubes as catalyst support. Sulfur Doping Triggering Enhanced Pt-N Coordination in Graphitic Carbon Nitride-Supported Pt Electrocatalysts toward Efficient Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Yaping Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the importance of tailoring the interfacial interaction between metal species and supports in supported electrocatalysts. By engineering a highly active interface in S-doped graphitic carbon nitride (SGCN)-supported Pt heterostructured electrocatalysts, enhanced oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) performance is achieved. The coordination and electronic structure of Pt species are modulated by S doping, resulting in strengthened Pt-N bonding and reinforcement of the metal-support interaction. The optimized 20Pt/SGCN-550 electrocatalyst exhibits excellent ORR performance and decent durability. This work not only advances the development of robust ORR electrocatalysts, but also provides a strategy for engineering heterostructured electrocatalysts with tunable interface chemistry for various catalytic applications.
