Unwinding the roles of RNA helicase MOV10

Aatiqa Nawaz et al.

Summary: MOV10, an RNA helicase, plays a key role in cellular response to viral infection, suppression of retrotransposition, and development. It associates with various proteins, undergoes posttranslational modifications, and exhibits cell type-specific localization. Studies on MOV10 have primarily focused on germline cells and neurons.

Efficient genome editing in wild strains of mice using the i-GONAD method

Yuji Imai et al.

Summary: Wild mouse strains have high levels of inter-strain genetic and phenotypic variations, making them valuable for research. However, genetic engineering in wild strains is challenging. A new method called i-GONAD has been developed for efficient genome editing. This study successfully applied i-GONAD to create genetically engineered mice in wild strains, opening up new possibilities for studying the genetic basis of wild mouse phenotypes. i-GONAD may also be useful for genetic manipulation in other mouse resources where traditional methods are difficult.

ApE, A Plasmid Editor: A Freely Available DNA Manipulation and Visualization Program

M. Wayne Davis et al.

Summary: A plasmid Editor (ApE) is a free, multi-platform application that allows visualization, design, and presentation of biologically relevant DNA sequences. It offers manual annotation as well as the use of a user-defined library of features. ApE can be used for designing plasmids and other constructs through in silico simulation of cloning methods.

Generation of mouse conditional knockout alleles in one step using the i-GONAD method

Renjie Shang et al.

Summary: The Cre/loxP system is a powerful tool for in vivo gene function studies, but its complexity and time-consuming nature limit its wider applications. The new i-GONAD technology, combining a unique design of CRISPR donor, can more efficiently generate mouse loxP alleles and provide a new pathway for gene function studies.

Resistance to lethal ectromelia virus infection requires Type I interferon receptor in natural killer cells and monocytes but not in adaptive immune or parenchymal cells

Carolina R. Melo-Silva et al.

Summary: The study found that the expression of IFNAR in NK cells and monocytes is crucial for the survival of mice infected with the specific pathogen ECTV, while its role in intrinsic IFNAR signaling is not essential for adaptive immune cell responses or directly protecting non-hematopoietic cells. This suggests that the anti-viral effects of IFN-I during viral infections are primarily restricted to cells of the innate immune system.
