Looking at mechanobiology through an evolutionary lens

Plant peptidoglycan precursor biosynthesis: Conservation between moss chloroplasts and Gram-negative bacteria

This study employed mass spectrometry and enzymology to characterize the synthesis of peptidoglycan in the moss Physcomitrium (Physcomitrella) patens and found that the biosynthetic pathway is derived from a Gram-negative bacterial progenitor of chloroplasts in early-diverging land plants.
