Prognostic value of tumor markers and ctDNA in patients with resectable gastric cancer receiving perioperative treatment: results from the CRITICS trial

Astrid E. Slagter et al.

Summary: CEA and CA 19-9 were independent prognostic factors for survival in a large cohort of European patients with resectable gastric cancer. No relationship was found between tumor markers and ctDNA.

Perioperative circulating tumor DNA enables the identification of patients with poor prognosis in upper tract urothelial carcinoma

Kosuke Nakano et al.

Summary: Perioperative systemic chemotherapy improves the prognosis of upper tract urothelial carcinoma. This study demonstrates that perioperative circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis can identify patients with poor prognosis who require perioperative chemotherapy. The study also shows that ctDNA can be used for minimal residual disease detection and treatment monitoring in UTUC, and has the potential to be a real-time marker for systemic therapy in patients with metastatic UTUC.

Cell-free tumour DNA analysis detects copy number alterations in gastro-oesophageal cancer patients

Karin Wallander et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that low-coverage whole-genome sequencing could serve as an effective tool for analyzing cell-free tumor DNA and total CNAs in plasma from patients with gastro-esophageal cancer. Additionally, some patients showed corresponding CNAs in plasma as seen in tumor tissue, indicating the potential clinical relevance of this liquid biopsy approach.

Clinical Significance of Monitoring Circulating Free DNA and Plasma Heat Shock Protein 90alpha in Patients with Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Qiang Zhao et al.

Summary: This study found that both cfDNA and Hsp90 alpha have potential value for diagnosis and prognostic prediction in ESCC patients. The concentrations of these two markers showed different dynamic changes at different time points. Particularly, both markers significantly increased after surgery.

Utility of total cell-free DNA levels for surgical damage evaluation in patients with urological surgeries

Sakae Konishi et al.

Summary: Total cfDNA levels have been found to significantly increase after urological surgery, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for surgical damage. Different types of urological surgeries showed varying ratios of total cfDNA levels before and after surgery, indicating the utility of total cfDNA levels in evaluating surgical outcomes. Major surgeries demonstrated a greater postoperative increase in total cfDNA levels compared to minor surgeries, highlighting the relationship between surgical intensity and total cfDNA levels as a biomarker for tissue damage.

Liquid Biopsy in Gastric Cancer: Analysis of Somatic Cancer Tissue Mutations in Plasma Cell-Free DNA for Predicting Disease State and Patient Survival

Greta Varkalaite et al.

Summary: The study assessed somatic mutational profiles in GC tissue and plasma cfDNA, showing a high concordance rate between the two. By analyzing multilayer molecular features, a combination of tissue matching alterations and presence of somatic alterations in cfDNA could predict distant metastasis in GC patients.
