Case report: Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor of the lateral ventricle in a male adolescent (case-based review and diagnostic challenges in developing countries)

Akzhol Karim et al.

Summary: Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) is a rare and highly malignant embryonal neoplasm that occurs mainly in infants and young children. It is characterized by rapid growth and poor prognosis. The diagnosis of this tumor is based on immunohistochemical staining for loss of nuclear integrase interactor 1 (INI1) expression. There is currently no validated treatment protocol, and multimodality treatment is commonly used.

Wilms tumour

Filippo Spreafico et al.

Summary: Wilms tumour is the most common renal tumour in infants and young children, representing a paradigm of intersection between disrupted organogenesis and tumorigenesis. Understanding and targeting multiple genes and cellular control pathways active in Wilms tumour development is crucial for improving patient outcomes. Decades of research have optimized clinical care, but disparities in survival within and between countries persist and require commitment to change.

Celiac Disease in Asia beyond the Middle East and Indian subcontinent: Epidemiological burden and diagnostic barriers

Dimitri Poddighe et al.

Summary: Celiac Disease has been found to be as prevalent in certain Asian regions such as the Indian subcontinent and Middle East countries as in Western countries, but information about its epidemiology is lacking in other areas. In regions like Russia and Central Asia, the prevalence of CD may be underestimated due to various factors contributing to underdiagnosis.

Prognostic significance of histopathological response to preoperative chemotherapy in unilateral Wilms' tumor: An analysis of 899 patients treated on the SIOP WT 2001 protocol in the UK-CCLG and GPOH studies

Gordan M. Vujanic et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate if a subset of Wilms' tumors showing an excellent response to preoperative chemotherapy had comparable survival rates as completely necrotic tumors, and to establish a cut-off point of chemotherapy-induced changes. It was found that patients with Wilms' tumors showing high levels of chemotherapy-induced changes had similar excellent event-free survival and overall survival rates as patients with completely necrotic tumors.

Prognostic Factors for Wilms Tumor Recurrence: A Review of the Literature

Alissa Groenendijk et al.

Summary: In high-income countries, 90% of children with Wilms tumors survive, but 15% may experience tumor recurrence. Identifying patients at risk of recurrence is crucial for adjusting treatment. Factors influencing recurrence range from patient, tumor, and treatment characteristics to geographic and socioeconomic factors. Further research on biological markers, like genetic alterations, is needed to better identify patients at risk of tumor recurrence.

Summary: CVID is a primary immune deficit characterized by hypogammaglobulinemia, often leading to bronchiectasis; delays in diagnosis are more common in resource-limited settings; this report highlights the challenge in raising medical attention and improving diagnostic rates in Central Asia when dealing with CVID and bronchiectasis cases.
