Prevalence and determinants of tricuspid regurgitation after repair of tetralogy of Fallot

Summary: The prevalence and determinants of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) in patients with repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) remain incompletely understood. This study found that despite substantial right ventricular (RV) dilatation in rTOF patients, the prevalence of TR is surprisingly low and has weak correlation with factors such as right atrial volumes and tricuspid annular diameter. These findings question the commonly held notions regarding the pathophysiology of functional TR in these patients.

Summary: The study retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of TOF patients who underwent PVR between 2001 and 2012, finding that concomitant TVP can effectively improve TR and RVEDVi, but may not prevent the recurrence of TR when PV failure occurs. Concomitant TVP can effectively preserve tricuspid valve function until PV failure.
