Survival and cognitive deterioration in elderly patients undergoing hemodialysis

Sayaka Miyazaki et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the 5-year changes in cognitive function in elderly patients undergoing hemodialysis and its association with survival and related factors. Cognitive Impairment Early After Initiating Maintenance Hemodialysis: A Cross Sectional Study

Melissa Schorr et al.

Summary: Abnormalities in cognitive function are common among patients receiving hemodialysis (HD) and are associated with impairments in verbal processing, reasoning, and short-term memory. These impairments may be attributed to the HD treatment itself. Further research is needed to understand the development of cognitive impairment in this patient population and to test interventions aimed at preventing or slowing its progression.

Applying ACE-III, M-ACE and MMSE to Diagnostic Screening Assessment of Cognitive Functions within the Polish Population

Beata Kaczmarek et al.

Summary: The research compares the accuracy of MMSE, ACE-III, and M-ACE in the Polish population and investigates their potential as predictors for early dementia. The study finds a high correlation and sensitivity between the three tests. ACE-III is recommended for specialized diagnostic centers, while M-ACE is a suitable alternative for primary health care centers.

Is It Removed During Dialysis?-Cognitive Dysfunction in Advanced Kidney Failure-A Review Article

Kirsty Crowe et al.

Summary: Cognitive impairment is independently associated with kidney disease and increases with declining kidney function. Multiple mechanisms contribute to cognitive impairment, which has broad impacts on patients, including increased hospitalization and mortality. Although assessing cognition in renal care may be beneficial, there is limited evidence for treatments.
