Association between Abortion History and Perinatal and Neonatal Outcomes of Singleton Pregnancies after Assisted Reproductive Technology

Hanxiang Sun et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between abortion history and the outcomes of singleton pregnancies after assisted reproductive technology (ART). The research found that pregnant women with a history of abortion were more likely to have gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), thyroid-related diseases, and placenta-related diseases. Women who had only a history of induced abortion had a higher risk of placenta-related diseases.

Women's reflections on timing of motherhood: a meta-synthesis of qualitative evidence

Camilla Gry Temmesen et al.

Summary: In recent decades, the age at which women give birth to their first child has been rising, leading to a decline in fertility. This study investigated women's reflections on the timing of motherhood and found that women of reproductive age face dilemmas and concerns about when to have children and the potential regret of delaying motherhood.

Association between the history of abortion and gestational diabetes mellitus: A meta-analysis

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the association between a history of abortion and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The findings showed that women who had experienced abortion had a higher risk of GDM, and the risk increased with the number of abortions. Both spontaneous abortion and induced abortion were associated with an increased risk of GDM.

Lifestyle interventions in pregnancy targeting GDM prevention: looking ahead to precision medicine

Joshua R. Sparks et al.

Summary: GDM prevention strategies have had mixed results, but recent research indicates that lifestyle interventions before pregnancy may be more effective. Precision prevention, tailoring interventions based on individual-level risk factors, is crucial for future studies to prevent GDM effectively. Adapting interventions in real-time based on individual responses could also be beneficial for future interventions.

Placental Dysfunction in Assisted Reproductive Pregnancies: Perinatal, Neonatal and Adult Life Outcomes

Claudio Manna et al.

Summary: Obstetric and newborn outcomes of ART pregnancies are associated with a significant prevalence of adverse health conditions in mothers and neonates. The observed placental alterations are thought to result from dysregulation of molecular factors and pathways. It is unclear if these alterations are caused by ART itself or by infertility. Inappropriate trophoblast invasion and altered vascular remodeling are implicated in obstetric and perinatal risks in ART pregnancies.

The anticancer effects of Metformin in the male germ tumor SEM-1 cell line are mediated by HMGA1

Alessandro Salatino et al.

Summary: Our study demonstrates that Met has anti-proliferative and anti-migratory effects in SEM-1 cells, providing new insights into potential treatments for male GCTs. The anticancer properties of Met in SEM-1 cells are likely related to its ability to interfere with HMGA1 and downstream targets, including cyclin D1, the IGFs system, and MMP-11.

Regulation of age-associated insulin resistance by MT1-MMP-mediated cleavage of insulin receptor

Xuanming Guo et al.

Summary: Insulin sensitivity declines with age due to increased activity of MT1-MMP, which cleaves the insulin receptor. Inhibiting MT1-MMP restores insulin receptor expression and improves insulin sensitivity. MT1-MMP activity is also involved in obesity-induced insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunctions in diabetes. Circulating MT1-MMP and soluble insulin receptor are positively correlated in plasma.

Gestational diabetes: Implications for fetal growth, intervention timing, and treatment options

Maria Mirabelli et al.

Summary: Maternal gestational diabetes mellitus can have adverse effects on the health of mothers and newborns, with studies showing the impact of maternal hyperglycemia on fetal growth and birth weight abnormalities. There is ongoing debate on the diagnosis and treatment of this condition, and future research should focus on addressing gaps in current knowledge.

Body size perception, knowledge about obesity and factors associated with lifestyle change among patients, health care professionals and public health experts

Virginija Zelenyte et al.

Summary: The study found that participants had differing perceptions of obesity, with most associating it with heart disease and diabetes but lacking knowledge on other related diseases. About one third of respondents reported changing their lifestyle in the last 12 months, with younger age and disappointment with current weight associated with healthier behaviors among overweight and obese individuals.

Modeling physician variability to prioritize relevant medical record information

Mohammadamin Tajgardoon et al.

Summary: Hierarchical models outperform standard logistic regression models in predicting relevant patient information in ICU cases, likely due to explicitly modeling physician-related variability. The hierarchical models achieved a significantly higher area under the receiver operating characteristic curve and lower expected calibration error compared to nonhierarchical models. Variability in physicians' selection of relevant data was demonstrated, highlighting the importance of personalized prediction models in EMR systems.
