Clinical and onychoscopic features of histopathologically proven onychopapillomas and literature update

Michela Starace et al.

Summary: Onychopapilloma is a benign tumor that presents with diverse clinical manifestations, such as longitudinal erythronychia, leukonychia, chromonychia, and melanonychia. Onychoscopic and histopathological studies are crucial for diagnosis and differentiating it from malignant conditions. Consider onychopapilloma in the differential diagnosis of a longitudinal streak in the nail, especially on the left thumb of an adult female.

Onychopapilloma: its clinical, dermoscopic and pathologic features

T. -R. Kim et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed the medical records and clinical/dermoscopic photographs of 39 patients diagnosed with onychopapilloma in Korea. The findings revealed that onychopapilloma in Asia has similar clinical characteristics and dermoscopic findings to the Caucasian one, with longitudinal erythronychia and distal subungual hyperkeratosis being the most common nail change and dermoscopic finding, respectively. The study also identified two new dermoscopic features of onychopapilloma: macrolunula and trailing lunula along the longitudinal band.

Concepts, Role, and Advances on Nail Imaging

Ximena Wortsman

Summary: Various imaging techniques are available for studying the nail, all of which require proper devices and trained operators. Currently, ultrasound is the preferred imaging technique for evaluating nail conditions due to its better axial spatial resolution and wider range of applications. The correlation between state-of-the-art clinical and imaging data supports the review of this topic.
