Surgically confirmed endometriosis in adolescents in Finland-A register-based cross-sectional cohort study

Summary: This study investigated the subtypes of endometriosis in adolescents as well as trends in incidence rates and related procedures from 1987 to 2012. The results showed that peritoneal endometriosis was the most common type, and the incidence rate of surgical diagnosis of endometriosis peaked in 2001-2005 and decreased thereafter. There was an increase in procedures for ovarian and deep endometriosis, as well as the use of laparoscopy and day surgery.
