Gut Microbial Antigenic Mimicry in Autoimmunity

Nahir Garabatos et al.

Summary: The composition of the gut microbiota is closely related to the development of various autoimmune diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease and multiple sclerosis. Antigenic mimicry and the impact on effector and regulatory T cells are important mechanisms involved in this process.

Clostridium butyricum Induces the Production and Glycosylation of Mucins in HT-29 Cells

Qi Lili et al.

Summary: C. butyricum can adhere to the mucus secreted by HT-29 cells with the glycan playing an important role in this process. Knockdown experiments targeting MUC2, FUT2, or GALNT7 significantly reduced the adhesion of bacteria to HT-29 cells. When colonizing on the surface of HT-29 cells, C. butyricum can increase mucin production and induce glycosylation, indicating its ability to modulate the glycosylation profile of mucus secreted by HT-29 cells.
