Dynamic molecular switches with hysteretic negative differential conductance emulating synaptic behaviour

Yulong Wang et al.

Summary: By using a dynamic molecular switch, researchers have been able to emulate synaptic behavior and Pavlovian learning, and achieve molecular-scale electronic operations beyond the von Neumann bottleneck. This thin and adaptable switch provides all the necessary logic gates and simplifies dynamic complex electrical operations.

The challenges of controlling polymer synthesis at the molecular and macromolecular level

Karen Hakobyan et al.

Summary: The modern applications of polymers require a detailed understanding of molecular-level structures and the ability to control macro-level features. Significant advances have been made in applying synthetic organic chemistry to achieve this precision. However, the inherently divergent synthesis process of polymers leads to statistical materials, making it challenging to control their chemical features on both the micro and macro level simultaneously.

Monolayer nanoarchitecture of crystalline metallopolymers by electrochemical iterative growth

Jinxin Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents the monolayer nanoarchitecture of long-range crystalline metallopolymers in vertical arrays, with heights ranging from 2 to 30 nm, achieved through kinetically accelerated and statistically allowed iterative growth. Guided by a self-assembled monolayer with defect-repair abilities, these monomolecular nanostructures exhibit superior properties in terms of surface roughness, highest density, and conductance and electrocatalysts as a function of height.

Single Dynamic Covalent Bond Tailored Responsive Molecular Junctions

Yong Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, responsive molecular devices with acid-base and photo-thermal responses were fabricated using a single dynamic acyl hydrazone bond. The devices exhibited three well-defined molecular conductance states, with reversible switching and distinct ON/OFF ratios. Density functional theory calculations revealed that the multiple conductance states were due to the dynamic acyl hydrazone bond exchange and C=N isomerization. This work opens up new possibilities for designing tailored single-molecule electrical devices.
