Highly Birefringent Anti-Resonant Hollow-Core Fiber with a Bi-Thickness Fourfold Semi-Tube Structure

Yi-feng Hong et al.

Summary: The optical performance of anti-resonant hollow-core fibers (AR-HCFs or ARFs) is improving rapidly, but polarization maintaining remains an issue. In this work, a novel ARF structure with bi-thickness semi-tube design and fourfold rotational symmetry is fabricated, achieving a birefringence level close to 10(-4). The proposed ARF demonstrates excellent polarization characteristics, low loss, wide bandwidth, and single-mode operation, making it suitable for polarization-related optical fiber applications.

Hollow-core fiber photothermal methane sensor with temperature compensation

Pengcheng Zhao et al.

Summary: A high sensitivity all-fiber spectroscopic methane sensor based on photothermal interferometry is demonstrated, achieving a noise-equivalent concentration of about 4.3 ppb methane under room temperature and 1 bar pressure conditions. The study investigates the effects of temperature on photothermal phase modulation and the stability of the interferometer. By introducing a temperature-dependent compensation factor and stabilizing the interferometer at quadrature, a signal instability of approximately 2.1% is demonstrated for temperature variation from 296 to 373 K.

Photoacoustic Brillouin spectroscopy of gas-filled anti-resonant hollow-core optical fibers

Yan Zhao et al.

Summary: Researchers demonstrated photoacoustic Brillouin spectroscopy (PABS) using a gas-filled anti-resonant hollow-core fiber (AR-HCF), showing the potential for high sensitivity gas sensing and non-invasive fiber characterization. By exciting the acoustic resonances of the fiber through pump absorption of gas molecules, they were able to spectroscopically characterize gas species and concentration.
