Proteomic analysis reveals the metabolic versatility of Amycolatopsis sp. BX17: A strain native from milpa agroecosystem soil

Michel Palafox-Felix et al.

Summary: Amycolatopsis sp. BX17 is an actinobacterium that has the potential to control the phytopathogenic fungus Fusarium graminearum. By analyzing the intracellular proteins, this study revealed the metabolic differences of BX17 strain grown in glucose-free medium and glucose-containing medium. The results suggest that amino acids are metabolized to synthesize antifungal compounds in glucose-free medium, while in glucose-containing medium, carbon flux is mainly directed towards energy and cell growth synthesis. This study demonstrates the metabolic versatility of Amycolatopsis BX17 and provides insights for designing biotechnological strategies for phytopathogen control.

On the Application of Calcium Phosphate Micro- and Nanoparticles as Food Additive

Joachim Enax et al.

Summary: Calcium and phosphate are essential nutrients for bone and teeth growth, as well as for other biochemical purposes. Calcium phosphates, including hydroxyapatite and tricalcium phosphate, are generally safe as food additives since they dissolve in the stomach and are easily absorbed by the body.

Comparison of different protocols for demineralization of cortical bone

Siyuan Pang et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of different demineralization protocols on the composition and structure of cortical bone, with HCl showing the most effectiveness. CH2O2 resulted in the least mineral removal but highest collagen quality. HCl and EDTA were the most effective in mineral removal based on bulk measurements.

Interaction of the human intestinal microbiota with the release of bound phenolic compounds in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

Liliana Maribel Perez-Perez et al.

Summary: This study aimed to release bound phenolic compounds from chickpea through the interaction of the microbiota of a volunteer and identify the enzymes involved. The highest amount of PC was released at 12 and 24 hours (16.8-18.5 mg GAE/g). Higher antioxidant capacity was observed during these hours, along with the identification of genera like Escherichia, Klebsiella, Bacteroides and Veillonella in the microbiota implicated in delivering PC.

Recent advances on the mechanisms of kidney stone formation (Review)

Zhu Wang et al.

Summary: Kidney stone disease is one of the oldest known diseases in medicine, with unclear mechanisms of formation and development. Recent technological advances have led to the development of various theories and strategies in surgical management of kidney stones. Observations suggest five main mechanisms for kidney stone formation: urinary supersaturation, Randall's plaques, sex hormones, microbiome, and immune response, providing opportunities for novel research and understanding in urology and nephrology.

IUPred3: prediction of protein disorder enhanced with unambiguous experimental annotation and visualization of evolutionary conservation

Gabor Erdos et al.

Summary: Intrinsically disordered proteins and protein regions carry out important biological functions and exhibit multifaceted roles in evolutionary behavior. Computational methods, such as IUPred, play crucial roles in characterizing IDRs. The updated version of IUPred introduces new features to enhance prediction capabilities, including novel smoothing functions and tools for exploring evolutionary conservation of protein disorder.
