Associations between parent-infant interactions, cortisol and vagal regulation in infants, and socioemotional outcomes: A systematic review

Valentine Rattaz et al.

Summary: Emotional regulation in early infancy is developed through social interactions with caregivers and plays a crucial role in socioemotional functioning. Physiological measures such as vagal tone and cortisol can provide insights into the association between parent-infant interaction, emotion regulation, and socioemotional outcomes. This review of 39 studies examines the associations between parent-infant interactions, physiological measures of emotion regulation, and children's socioemotional outcomes.

Use of the Griffiths mental development scale-Chinese in the assessment of children with autism spectrum disorder and global developmental delay/intellectual disability

Hui Wang et al.

Summary: The study used the GDS-C to assess children with language problems, finding that both ASD and GDD/ID patients exhibited lower developmental levels compared to typically developing children. While there were no significant differences in the six subscale scores between the ASD and GDD/ID groups, an imbalance in subscale development within each group highlighted deficits in social-personal, language, and practical reasoning skills for children with ASD, and in language and practical reasoning skills for children with GDD/ID, relative to typical children. The practical reasoning subscale characteristics of the GDS-C were particularly useful in diagnosing autism in children aged >36 to 60 months.

Parent Training and Therapy in Children with Autism

Alessandro Frolli et al.

Summary: The study suggests that early intervention using behavioral interventions such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and reflexive functions (RF) training on parents can improve the development of joint attention (JA) in children with autism spectrum disorders. Parents who can understand both their own mental state and that of their child can serve as a protective factor for the child's development even in atypical developmental situations.

Parental involvement in developmental disabilities across three cultures: A systematic review

Serra Acar et al.

Summary: The majority of articles in this review reported on maternal involvement in EI/ECSE, with only a few studies including parents as intervention agents. The review emphasizes the need for future research to investigate the effects of culture on parental involvement and develop culturally responsive approaches for meaningful parental involvement in EI/ECSE.

Challenges to parental involvement in transition planning for children with intellectual disabilities: The perspective of special education teachers in Saudi Arabia

Saeed Almalki et al.

Summary: The study found that parents lack participation in transition planning for students with intellectual disabilities due to reasons such as lack of time and knowledge about transition. Schools did not actively seek parental involvement or provide substantial guidance, preventing parents from making a meaningful contribution to the planning process.
