CO-induced thermal decomposition of LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 (LNCA) is a crucial cathode material for room-temperature lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). It has been explored in ceramic fuel cells (CFCs) with a broad temperature range, but the high temperature and reactive atmosphere in CFCs may affect the stability of LNCA. This study reports the thermal decomposition of LNCA to Ni/Co alloy, Li2CO3, LiAlO2, and carbon induced by CO at temperatures of 500 degrees C or above. These findings are significant for the design of efficient LNCA-based electrodes in CFCs.

Recent advances in carbon-resistant anodes for solid oxide fuel cells

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) provide an environmentally friendly solution for efficient power supply anywhere and anytime. However, the deposition of carbon on conventional SOFC anodes during operation with hydrocarbon fuels causes a decline in cell performance. This review discusses the carbon deposition process, detection methods, and strategies to solve anode carburization, with a focus on alternative anode materials. Future research directions, including the potential application of single-atom based anode catalysts, are also proposed.

Summary: This study investigates the performance of a 3D model of a flat-tubular solid oxide fuel cell running on direct ammonia feed compared to hydrogen feed. The findings show that the ammonia feed model outperforms the hydrogen feed model and has better performance than the corresponding tubular solid oxide fuel cell. The study also highlights the influence of operating parameters on cell performance and suggests that ammonia can be a promising carbon-neutral fuel for future fuel cell applications.

Direct Electrophoretic Deposition and Characterization of Thin-Film Membranes Based on Doped BaCeO3 and CeO2 for Anode-Supported Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

Elena Pikalova et al.

Summary: In this work, a technology was developed to form BCS-CuO/SDC thin-film electrolyte membranes for IT-SOFCs on porous NiO-BCS-CuO anode substrates using direct electrophoretic deposition. The effect of modifying the base suspension with the addition of a SDC-lec nanopowder was investigated. Dependences of the current strength on the deposition time and the deposited weight on the EPD voltage were obtained, and the morphology of the coatings during the modification of the suspensions was studied. Dense BCS-CuO/SDC films of different thicknesses were obtained on porous NiO-BCS-CuO anode substrates and comprehensive microstructural and electrochemical studies were carried out. The developed technology can be applied to the formation of anode-supported SOFCs with thin-film electrolyte membranes.
