In-situ investigation on the deformation mechanism of duplex microstructure of a near α titanium alloy

Runchen Jia et al.

Summary: The targeted research on equiaxed alpha particles and lamellar alpha colonies in the duplex microstructure of Ti60 alloy revealed that slip lines preferentially occur in equiaxed alpha particles during in-situ tensile tests. The prism slip of the (10 (1) over bar0) plane and [1 (2) over bar 10] direction is the most activated slip system in equiaxed alpha particles according to the calculation results of the movement slip system.

{10-12} extension twinning activity and compression behavior of pure Mg and Mg-0.5Ca alloy at cryogenic temperature

Gukin Han et al.

Summary: The study found that Mg-0.5Ca alloy exhibits temperature-insensitive hardening behavior, while pronounced twinning activity was observed in pure Mg when deformed at low temperatures. The microstructure of Mg-0.5Ca helps reduce twinning behavior, resulting in its hardening behavior being temperature-dependent.

Estimation of micro-Hall-Petch coefficients for prismatic slip system in Mg-4Al as a function of grain boundary parameters

Mohsen Taheri Andani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the micro-Hall-Petch coefficient values for prismatic slip in Mg-4Al alloys and their correlation with grain boundary parameters. The results show that the k(mu)(pr)(ismat)(ic) values vary significantly among different grain boundaries and are larger than the values for basal micro-Hall-Petch. A functional relationship based on two effective angles is proposed to estimate the Hall-Petch barrier for prismatic slip system.

Microstructure, Texture, and Hardness Evolution of Cold-Rolled High-Purity Ti Sheet During Annealing at 350 °C to 550 °C

Xing Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructural, textural, and hardness evolution of a cold-rolled high-purity Ti sheet during annealing at different temperatures. The results show that recrystallization nucleation starts at 400 degrees C, and fully recrystallized structures are obtained after annealing at 550 degrees C for 1 hour. The textural change during recrystallization nucleation is attributed to the subgrain coalescence mechanism. The hardness of the specimen decreases with increasing annealing temperature.

In-plane tensile deformation and formability of pure titanium sheet at cryogenic temperature

Seulbi Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigates the tensile deformation and sheet formability of pure Ti sheets at different temperatures. It is found that lowering the temperature increases the difference in tensile deformation in different directions. At 100 K, the pure Ti sheets exhibit higher tensile ductility in the rolling direction (RD) and a slight increase in ductility in the transverse direction (TD). This improvement is attributed to the prolonged strain hardening in RD deformation at 100 K. Additionally, the sheet formability deteriorates at 100 K due to the enhanced anisotropy of tensile deformation.

Microscale crystal slip and macroscopic cold creep transition in dwell fatigue

Zhen Zhang

Summary: This study established the relationship between microscopic slip and macroscopic creep in dwell fatigue within the framework of cold creep and temperature sensitivity, supported by micromechanical evidence. The research demonstrated that the local rate dependent responses vary in form under different stress states, which is crucial in understanding the behavior during dwell fatigue. The roles of local rate dependence, material anisotropy, and other factors in load shedding were discussed in the nucleation of possible dwell facets.

Effect of post-weld heat treatment on mechanical properties of local weld-affected zones in friction stir welded AZ31 plates

Gukin Han et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical, microstructural, and textural characteristics of friction stir welded AZ31 magnesium alloy plates, finding that annealing at specific temperatures led to reductions in yield strength but improvements in tensile strength and elongation. The analysis showed a correlation between dislocation density, grain growth trends, and mechanical properties in different zones.

Effect of texture and temperature gradient on anisotropic plastic deformation of commercially pure titanium at room and low temperatures

Min-Su Lee et al.

Summary: The study revealed the deformation anisotropy and plastic behaviors of commercial pure titanium at low temperature, twinning-induced hardening is one of the reasons for anisotropic plastic behavior, low temperature and increasing temperature gradient intensified plastic anisotropy and twinning activity, possibly increasing the activation rate of slips. Plastic anisotropy was intensified under two different crystallographic textures.

In-situ investigation of tensile behaviors of Ti-6Al alloy with extra low interstitial

Shixing Huang et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the tensile behaviors of Ti-6Al ELI alloy, revealing multiple slip activities dominated by prismatic and basal slips. Coordinated deformation mechanisms, including crystalline orientation rotation, slip transmission, and deformation twinning, were involved to accommodate increased macrostrain under tensile loading. Furthermore, microcrack formation was mainly attributed to localized stress concentration at grain boundaries in Ti-6Al ELI alloy.

Texture-dependent dwell fatigue response of titanium

K. U. Yazar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the deformation heterogeneity of commercially pure titanium sheet and its variation with loading direction, showing that higher level of grain boundary sliding and formation of grain boundary-affected zones in the transverse direction lead to increased roughness and higher strain gradient. The study proposes a criterion defining the compatibility of a boundary based on c-axis deviation and geometric compatibility of slip systems, and identifies a higher fraction of incompatible boundaries in the transverse direction. Additionally, the superior dwell fatigue response of samples deformed along the rolling direction is partly attributed to lower heterogeneity in the nature of deformation.
