Cu2O based on core-shell nanostructure for enhancing the fire-resistance, antibacterial properties and mechanical properties of epoxy resin

Long Xia et al.

Summary: This study reports a multifunctional nanoparticle (Cu2O@KF) for improving the fire-resistance and antibacterial properties of epoxy resin. Cu2O@KF exhibits excellent fire-resistance (LOI = 34.7% and pHRR reduced by 56.3%), antibacterial properties (over 99.99% antibacterial efficiency), and mechanical properties (hardness and Young's modulus increased by 80.0% and 24.0%, respectively) at a low loading level (7 wt%). These ideal characteristics are derived from the multisynergistic properties among Cu2O and KF.

Precise Control of a Yolk-Double Shell Metal-Organic Framework-Based Nanostructure Provides Enhanced Fire Safety for Epoxy Nanocomposites

Boyou Hou et al.

Summary: Nanomaterials derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) show great potential as flame retardants for polymeric materials. In this study, a novel nanostructure (ZIF-67@layered double hydroxides@polyphophazenes, ZIF@LDH@PZS) was designed and introduced into epoxy resin (EP) as a flame retardant. The interface of the polymer nanocomposites can be accurately tailored by the outermost layer of the nanofillers. The results showed that the EP blended with ZIF@LDH@PZS exhibited outstanding comprehensive performance.
