Dependence of grain size on grain boundary diffusion mechanism of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets

Sangen Luo et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of grain size in the diffusion matrix on the grain boundary diffusion mechanism of Tb element. The results show that with only 0.75 wt. % TbF3 diffusion, the intrinsic coercivity increases significantly for the magnet with finer average grain size compared to the coarse-grain magnet. The increase in intrinsic coercivity is attributed to the increase in defect density and the higher grain orientation caused by grain refinement, which leads to improved diffusion efficiency and magnetic properties.

Solid solubility extension and nano-mechanical properties of rapidly solidified Fe-Zr eutectic alloys under free fall condition

D. D. Zuo et al.

Summary: The liquid-solid phase transitions and solidified microstructures of highly undercooled Fe-Zr eutectic melts were investigated by the drop tube technique. Quantitative relationships among droplet diameter, undercooling, and cooling rate were calculated for different eutectic alloys. The evolution of solidified microstructure with droplet diameter was studied, showing changes in the microstructural morphology and solid solubility, affecting the nano-mechanical properties of the alloys.

Microstructure evolution and mechanical property of quaternary Cu-7%Al-4%Ni-2.5%Mn alloy solidified within ultrasonic field

X. Wang et al.

Summary: The application of power ultrasound during the solidification process of Cu-7%Al-4%Ni-2.5%Mn alloy significantly improves nucleation rate, leading to the formation of equiaxed grains with uniform solute distribution and a threefold increase in compressive yield strength. Additionally, the ultrasonic wave enhances the wetting effect between alloy melt and impurities, breaks dendrites into fragments, and promotes symmetrical distribution of temperature, solute, and flow fields in the solidification front.

Selective laser melting of Cu-Ni-Sn: A comprehensive study on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and deformation behavior

Chao Zhao et al.

Summary: A comprehensive understanding of the deformation behavior and strengthening mechanism of the selective laser melted (SLM) alloy is crucial for maximizing the potential of the SLM process. This study focuses on the impact of SLM on the microstructure, deformation behavior, and mechanical properties of Cu-Ni-Sn alloy compared to their cast counterparts (CC). The SLM microstructure, characterized by increased dislocation density, offers a superior combination of tensile strength and ductility, mainly attributed to grain refinement, dispersed precipitation, and increased dislocation density.

Austenite Grain Refinement and Subsequent Martensite Transformation of Ternary Cu-Al-Ni Alloy Solidified Within Ultrasonic Field

Y. J. Hu et al.

Summary: The application of power ultrasound during the solidification of Cu-14wt pct Al-4.5 wt pct Ni alloy promoted the nucleation of primary austenite and influenced martensite transformation during subsequent quenching. The refinement of martensite phases and increase of beta 1' phase content due to ultrasound led to enhanced mechanical properties of the alloy, including increased yield strength, microhardness, and storage modulus.

Solidification Behavior of in situ TiB2/Cu Composite Powders during Reactive Gas Atomization

Jiang Yihui et al.

Summary: The TiB2/Cu composite powders fabricated in situ by reactive gas atomization exhibit high sphericity and a range of powder sizes. The morphology of the Cu matrix and the distribution of the TiB2 particles vary with the powder size. Interface morphologies in the composite powders undergo critical transitions at smaller sizes, influenced by the TiB2 particles and cooling rates.
