New understanding of extraction and separation of vanadium(IV), iron and titanium using iron powder induction-leaching and P204-P507 synergistic extraction

Zhenzhong Bian et al.

Summary: In this study, the induced-leaching behavior of hematite by iron powder was investigated after ammonium sulfate roasting vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate, and a P204-P507 synergistic extraction method was developed for the separation of vanadium(IV), iron, and titanium. The results showed that effective selective separation of the three elements was achieved, with high dissolution of vanadium and iron and low dissolution of titanium. Iron powder was found to reduce chemical reaction resistance and accelerate ion transfer rate in the leachate. The speciation analysis revealed the distribution of the three elements in the form of VO(2+) and Fe(II) ions and TiO2 precipitation. The extraction efficiency of vanadium reached 98.13% under the optimized condition, as confirmed by the five-stage countercurrent extraction test. The P204-P507 molecule was shown to release two H+ ions for every vanadium ion extracted. Finally, a high-titanium slag with a TiO2 content of 85.32% was obtained.

Efficient separation of vanadium, titanium, and iron from vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite by pressurized pyrolysis of ammonium chloride-acid leaching-solvent extraction process

Zhenzhong Bian et al.

Summary: A novel process involving pressurized pyrolysis, acid leaching, and solvent extraction was developed to efficiently separate vanadium, titanium, and iron from vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite. The analysis showed that pressurized pyrolysis of ammonium chloride could enhance the capture of vanadium by generated ferric/ferrous chloride in situ. The resulting vanadium and iron concentrations were enriched through solvent extraction, while the titania concentration in the acid leaching residue could be used for TiO2 pigment production.

Catalytic performance of V-MCM-41 nanocomposites in liquid phase limonene oxidation: Vanadium leaching mitigation

Virginia M. Vaschetti et al.

Summary: The chemical stability and catalytic performance of MCM-41 materials functionalized with vanadium by template ion exchange (TIE) were studied. Results showed that isolated cations (V delta+) are more likely to be the active sites for the reaction. High vanadium content actually lowers catalytic performance and favors sub-product formation by secondary reactions. A bimetallic material with enhanced catalytic activity and superior chemical stability was successfully developed.

Clean production technology for effective recovery of vanadium from shale: Interaction between activators and vanadium-loaded minerals

Wang Li et al.

Summary: A pre-decarburization activated roasting and mild acid leaching process was developed for the recovery of vanadium from shale, with NaCO3 and K2SO4 identified as the most effective additives for promoting the production of water-soluble vanadate. The process resulted in a 92% leaching efficiency of vanadium under mild acid conditions and significantly increased the amount of water-soluble vanadium, reducing acid consumption and impurities. Ultimately, V2O5 with purity of 99.5% was obtained after ion exchange, precipitation, and calcination.
