Corrosion inhibitors: physisorbed or chemisorbed?

Anton Kokalj

Summary: The traditional criteria for distinguishing between physisorption and chemisorption based on the standard free energy of adsorption are not very reliable. Chemisorption may result in a rather weak standard adsorption free energy, and more reliable criteria from first principle computational modeling studies are recommended.

Yu Li et al.

Summary: This study explored the corrosion inhibition mechanism and comprehensive influence of Xanthium japonica corrosion inhibitor on concrete performance through various detection methods, quantum chemical calculation, and molecular dynamics simulation. The corrosion inhibitor was found to effectively reduce corrosion current and increase corrosion potential, showing characteristics of a composite corrosion inhibitor. Its adsorption behavior followed the Frumkin adsorption theory and formed a relatively stable adsorption film on the carbon steel surface. Additionally, Xanthium japonica showed functions of retardation, enhancement, and rust inhibition, with the optimal concentration being 2 g/L.
