Hot deformation behavior and microstructural evolution of the Al-Cu-Li alloy: A study with processing map

Jiaguo Tang et al.

Summary: In this study, isothermal compression tests were conducted on the 2195 Al-Cu-Li alloy to investigate its hot deformation behavior. A processing map was established to predict the workability under different conditions, and the corresponding microstructures were analyzed to reveal the deformation mechanisms. The results indicate that the optimal hot-working conditions for the alloy are at temperatures of 460-500 degrees C and strain rates of 10-3-10-2 s-1, with dominant mechanisms of dynamic recrystallization and dynamic recovery.

An optimized constitutive model and microstructure characterization of a homogenized Al-Cu-Li alloy during hot deformation

Shuai Long et al.

Summary: The flow behavior and thermal expansion behavior of a homogenized Al-Cu-Li alloy were investigated through quenching expansion tests and isothermal compression tests. It was found that the temperature rise dissolves coarse secondary phases and increases the coefficient of thermal expansion. Different constitutive models were evaluated, with the two-step optimized Johnson-Cook model showing the highest precision in predicting the material behavior.

Hot deformation behaviors of AZ91 magnesium alloy: Constitutive equation, ANN-based prediction, processing map and microstructure evolution

Dongxiao Wang et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behavior of an AZ91 magnesium alloy was studied using the Arrhenius model and Back-Propagation Artificial Neural Network (BP-ANN) approaches. The results showed that the BP-ANN model had higher accuracy compared to the Arrhenius model. The processing map was divided into three parts: machinable area, instability area I, and instability area II. The instability mode in areas B and C changed from cracks to holes with increasing temperature or decreasing strain rate. Stable hot-deformation conditions were found in specific ranges of temperature and strain rate.

Hot deformation behavior, processing map, microstructure evolution and dynamic recrystallization mechanism of Mg-5Al-0.6Sc alloy

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of deformation temperature and strain rate on the hot deformation mechanism of an as-cast Mg-5Al-0.6Sc alloy. The results showed that the flow stress decreased with increasing temperature and decreasing strain rate. A constitutive equation was established to accurately predict the hot deformation behavior of the alloy. The optimal processing area was determined based on processing maps, and the microstructure evolution and dynamic recrystallization mechanism of the alloy were analyzed.

Improving mechanical properties of a cast Al-Mg alloy with high Mg content by rapid solidification

Xinbiao Wang et al.

Summary: This research aims to reduce the amount and size of Al-Mg intermetallic phases by rapid solidification and improve the strength and ductility of a cast Al-15 wt% Mg alloy. The results show that the alloy processed by twin-roll casting (TRC) has refined Al grains and refined granular Al3Mg2 particles, as well as increased Mg solid solubility and decreased amount of Al3Mg2 phase. The TRC Al-15 wt% alloy exhibits higher yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and uniform elongation compared to the conventionally mold cast counterpart.

Fan Li et al.

Summary: The elevated temperature flow behaviors of 30Si2MnCrMoVE low-alloy ultra-high strength steel were studied through hot compressive deformation tests and the establishment of constitutive equations. It was found that the modified ZA model was not accurate in describing the flow behavior, while the Arrhenius type model had the highest prediction accuracy.

Microstructural evolution and mechanical behaviour in the hot deformation of GH3128 alloy

Yongdi Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructural evolution and mechanical behavior of the GH3128 alloy during hot deformation. The results show that the precipitation of the second phase in the grain boundary increases with temperature, and dynamic recrystallization occurs through twin-induced and particle-stimulated nucleation. The mechanical behavior varies with temperature, with a decrease in elongation and a change in fracture mechanism from ductile to ductile brittle fracture at higher temperatures. These findings provide a theoretical basis and guidance for the hot-working process of GH3128.

Constitutive modeling and hot deformation processing map of a new biomaterial Ti-14Cr alloy

Sumit Ghosh et al.

Summary: The present study designed a new biomaterial Ti-14Cr alloy for biomedical applications and investigated its manufacturing process through hot deformation. A processing map was constructed to evaluate the hot workability and deformation mechanisms of the alloy at different temperature and strain rate ranges. The study identified the optimal parameters for hot deformation and established a mathematical relation to elucidate the influence of true strain on material constants. The research provides important insights for optimizing the hot deformation parameters and controlling the grain structure of the alloy.

Effects of cold temperatures, strain rates and anisotropy on the mechanical behavior and fracture morphology of an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy

Yue Guo et al.

Summary: Tensile experiments were conducted on Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy at various temperatures and strain rates, revealing an increase in peak stress with decreasing temperature and different stress responses for specimens from different orientations. The coupling effects of dynamic strain aging and work hardening influenced the strain rate sensitivity value. Fracture morphologies observed by SEM showed ductile fracture mode at room temperature and brittle-ductile mixed fracture mode at below-zero temperatures, with anisotropy discussed in detail.

Summary: Isothermal hot compression tests were conducted on Al-Mg-Si-Ce-B alloy at temperatures from 623-823 K with strain rates of 0.01-50 s-1. The alloy showed plastic deformation instability at relatively low temperatures, with optimized deformation parameters identified as 783-823 K/0.03-0.04 s. The microstructure was characterized using TEM and EBSD, and the influence of Z parameter on dynamic softening mechanisms was discussed, showing both DRV and CDRX as softening mechanisms during hot deformation.
