Effect of aging plus cryogenic treatment on the machinability of 7075 aluminum alloy

Ping Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of aging plus cryogenic treatment on the machinability of 7075 aluminum alloy in high speed cutting. The results show that cryogenic treatment reduces the cutting force and leads to smaller grain size and more precipitates in the aluminum matrix. After cryogenic treatment, the alloy precipitates are denser and discontinuous, and the stacking fault on the machined surface is greatly improved.

Effect of heat treatment process on the micro machinability of 7075 aluminum alloy

Ping Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of heat treatment process on the micro machinability of 7075 aluminum alloy. Different heat treatment processes are found to have varying effects on the cutting force, surface roughness, surface quality, and residual stress of the alloy. Changes in cutting parameters also influence the machining performance of the alloy differently under different heat treatment processes.

Experimental study on the influence of bionic channel structure and nanofluids on power generation characteristics of waste heat utilisation equipment

Jianglin Tu et al.

Summary: A bionics-based cogeneration system was designed in this study to improve waste heat utilization, with experimental results showing that using CuO-H2O nanofluids can increase the temperature at the hot end of a thermoelectric plate. The highest thermoelectric conversion efficiency was achieved with bionic structures featuring an angular frequency of 30 rad/s, an amplitude of 3 mm, and a phase shift of 180 degrees, providing guidance for the design and operation of waste heat utilization equipment.

Numerical analysis of flow and heat characteristic around micro-ribbed tube in heat exchanger system

Jianglin Tu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the effects of different parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of tube-row channel heat exchangers through numerical simulation. It was found that TiO2-H2O nanofluids can improve the performance of heat exchangers, with the best results achieved at a mass fraction of 0.4%. Adjusting the number of ribs, rib height, pitch diameter ratio, and using nanofluids can significantly increase the Nusselt numbers.

Water jet impact damage mechanism and dynamic penetration energy absorption of 2A12 aluminum alloy

Ping Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of waterjet cavitation on the dynamic penetration energy absorption of 2A12 aluminum alloy. Experimental and simulation results show that waterjet cavitation can enhance the residual compressive stress and improve the surface quality of the target. The combination of small jet angle with large jet pressure or large jet angle with medium jet pressure delivers the best strengthening effect.

Influence of Y2O3 addition on the microstructure of TiC reinforced Ti-based composite coating prepared by laser cladding

Zhiqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: TiC reinforced Ti-based composite coatings were prepared by laser cladding, and the influence of Y2O3 on the properties and microstructure of the coatings was systematically investigated. Adding 2 wt% Y2O3 completely eliminated cracks and significantly reduced the number of pores in the coatings. The main precipitated phases in the coatings were TiC and 8-Ti. Y2O3 addition inhibited the generation of Ti2Ni at the grain boundary, but promoted the generation of Cr1.93Ti1.07 in the coatings. Dendrites in the coatings became more developed, and a large number of tertiary dendrites were found.

Incremental Sheet Forming of Metal-Based Composites Used in Aviation and Automotive Applications

Tomasz Trzepiecinski et al.

Summary: Composite materials are widely used in the aviation industry due to their low weight and high stiffness. They are also considered a means of building lighter, safer, and more fuel-efficient automobiles. Incremental forming methods allow quick formation of materials without the need for conventional metal dies, making it profitable for production of prototypes and small series of products. This article provides an overview of the incremental forming capabilities of commonly used aluminium- and titanium-based laminates in the aircraft industry, and discusses the advantages and potential for incremental forming of aramid-reinforced aluminium laminates.

Effects of minor Nd and Er additions on the precipitation evolution and dynamic recrystallization behavior of Mg-6.0Zn-0.5Mn alloy

Bin-Jiang Lv et al.

Summary: A new wrought magnesium alloy based on Mg-6.0Zn-0.5Mn has been developed, exhibiting a superior combination of high tensile yield strength and good ductility. Addition of minor neodymium and erbium accelerates twinning, dynamic recrystallization, and dynamic precipitation processes, leading to improved mechanical properties. The alloy demonstrates enhanced yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation due to fine complete DRX grains, second phase particles, and a high density of precipitates resulting from the micro-alloying.

Thermo-hydraulic performance of nanofluids in a bionic heat sink

Jinghua Tang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the development of a bionic surface based on the wing structure of the dragon louse for thermal management in electronic components, as well as the behavior of Fe3O4-water nanofluids under magnetic field. Various factors affecting heat transfer, such as nanofluid concentration, Reynolds number, magnetic field angle, and intensity, were considered. Results show that the bionic surface has a significant drag reduction effect and the magnetic field has a notable influence on CPU cooling.

Huaibo Deng et al.

Summary: The feasibility of dissimilar NiTi/Ti6Al4V joints fabricated via friction stir welding was confirmed through conventional and back-heating assisted process. The back-heating method resulted in defect-free joints with higher microhardness in the special area with Ti2Ni intermetallic compounds formation. Additionally, brittle Ti2Ni IMCs were identified as the main factor deteriorating the mechanical properties of the joints.

Influence of CeO2 addition on forming quality and microstructure of TiCx-reinforced CrTi4-based laser cladding composite coating

Zhiqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: The addition of CeO2 can effectively inhibit the formation of cracks and pores, and significantly influence the content and distribution of dendritic TiCx. The phase composition of the coatings is not affected by CeO2, but Ce and O atoms from CeO2 decomposition are recrystallized and distributed within the coatings. Al, V, and Cr elements are uniformly distributed, while Ni and Cr elements are segregated.
