Ting Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates a series of newly developed dual-phase Ti-Nb-Ta-Zr alloys and explores the effects of Nb and Ta contents on the microstructure and mechanical properties. The designed alloys exhibit high compressive strength and strain, which can be attributed to the dual-phase microstructure and stress-induced martensite formation. Additionally, lattice distortion caused by Ta element contributes to the compressive properties.

Copper ferrite heterojunction coatings empower polyetheretherketone implant with multi-modal bactericidal functions and boosted osteogenicity through synergistic photo/Fenton-therapy

Junchuan Zhang et al.

Summary: Drug-free antibacterial therapies, such as photodynamic therapy and chemodynamic therapy, have shown significant potential in effectively eradicating pathogenic bacteria by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS). A new photo-activated copper ferrite heterojunction coating on bioinert polyetheretherketone (PEEK) implants has been developed, capable of localized hyperthermia and ROS production for antibacterial therapy. The coatings also trigger Fenton-like reactions and glutathione depletion in the bacterial infectious microenvironment, leading to robust antibacterial effects. Additionally, the coated implants demonstrate excellent biocompatibility and promote osteogenesis, with micronutrient elements (Cu, Fe) released under NIR light exposure enhancing osteogenicity.
